I got it last week. I quite like it. If you didn't like fuzz universe or vibrato you won't like this though.

Wow this place has truly died. So little fanfare. I guess we have been truly alienated! Will be giving this a good listen when it comes out - I'll keep the faith

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
I really don't like the idea of the album...
an "all covers" album is usually something I don't look forward to. Transforming songs with vocals into instrumentals is really something I don't enjoy listening for 40-50 minutes.
I'll get it, eventually, but unlike I did with his previous 4 albums, I'm not getting the Japan import.

lame that I can't get this through itunes, or whatnot yet, even though it is out in japan for a few weeks. Region specific releases are LAME.

I wish I could buy this. Since its a taboo for me to "download".
Even worse that there's no yourube vids of him playing it, except for only one of the songs.

What worries me is this: Paul wrote: I have played guitar for many years. But recently, I have realized that I am not satisfied with much of what I have done. Soooo... jazz odyssey then?

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
Well, that actually makes for some good news. If he was satisfied, then he wouldnt evolve, and would never get better.
I think dont think anyone who has a true passion for something is ever satisfied with it.

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
The first song is pretty kickass. Digging a couple of the others too. I just hope some of you can appreciate Paul when the gain isn't cranked to 11 playing as fast as possible (even though that's my favorite version of him also)

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
Just decided to check in and see if this place was still alive and it is....kinda.
Anyway. The new Paul Gilbert album is quite disappointing I'm sorry to say. Working For The Weekend is great but the rest of the tracks are boring IMO. Paul isn't really doing anything new or coming up with anything new or exciting, and the cover versions are a bit lazy. It's like he put out an album to fill contractual obligations or something. For me, his last great album was United States with Freddie Nelson.
I just hope the new Mr Big album will be better than Paul's recent solo works.

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
Working for the Weekend kicks major ass.
The way he arranged it rocks... but you know what ? Although he did an awesome technical job replicating a singer's voice with his guitar, I kinda feel I would've been happier to hear Jeff Motherfucking Martin. I understand where the difficulty of the exercise lies, but it does sound like that, an exercise.
I mean the drumming is awesome, all the background guitar and rythmns, solos rule, all the non vocal substitute guitar parts rule big time. Why this wasn't turned into the cover song of a full fledged Racer X album containing other original tracks is beyond me.

Re: New PG Album out in Japan.
I gave it a listen, and I only really liked I Got A Feelin' and the title track. I mean, the rest aren't bad songs, they just didn't catch my attention. I wish he had done vocals for some of the songs, but maybe that's just me getting a bit bored of instrumental rock at the moment. I'll give in another listen when I'm more into that sort of stuff again.
