Do you can imagine a song which is a mixture of John Petrucci from Dream Theater and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd?

Well, isn't John Petrucci a mix of John Petrucci and Gilmour himself?

Yeah, except Petrucci is way less tasteful and has worse tone.

ahahha sorry i think that was considered "trolling" and i don't wanna derail the thread...but Gilmour's songwriting, guitar parts, and solos I feel are a lot better than Petrucci's. probably because I think Pink Floyd is leagues better than Petrucci (edit: Dream Theatre**).

sorry sorry ill stop! hahaha

:) Gilmour has indeed a huge influence to everybody who has listened to Pink Floyd. Even on the new Dream Theater album there are a few very Gilmour-esque segments.

Yup.

In other news, I feel that the counterpoint in Bach's English suites far outweighs the musicianship found on Justin Bieber's new album

I don't think it's a false analogy. Someone said that Petrucci was a combination of himself and Gilmour and I argued that that was not true, albeit in a sarcastic way. Also Dream Theatre gets compared to Pink Floyd constantly. I don't find many Gilmourian segments in Petrucci's playing nor in Dream Theatre's music as a whole.

I also don't think that comparing Bach to Justin Bieber is the same as Pink Floyd to Dream Theatre...Dream Theatre isn't THAT bad hahaha

I'm a HUGE Dream TheatER fan - got some DT ink and everything

I cant recall anyone ever comparing the two - well, certainly not enough for me to instantly remember

Hahaha dammit! I always spell it theatre and don't even notice. I've heard a bunch of ppl compare the two, I also hear many ppl comparing porcupine tree to floyd as well but yeah that's a whole other topic (I disagree with that comparison as well).

But enough hijacking haha sorrry!!

Hey, no probs John:)
Anyway, I really love Gilmour's playing, and he has always had a major influence on my playing, and so has Petrucci's style. So both of them are amazing and great players, that's for sure.
