Post HELP : I need music !
Alright...

I'm getting depressed.
I haven't found groundbreaking, awesome music in a while, and my playlist of songs is starting to drive me nuts.

Does anyone wanna share any music that moves the soul, or rocks socks off ?

Try looking for Jerry Cantrell's solo albums.

There are 2 of them. The second one can be found in a 2 CD format, which contains 25 songs or so. It's like Alice in Chains, but heavier and with him on the vocals.

The last album also features Trujillo and Bordin on the Rhythm section of the band!

I'm sure you're familiar with thrash metal, the American mix of hardcore punk and British metal. Most bands from this genre leaned towards the British metal groups, carrying the melodic edge of Judas Priest, Diamond Head, and Iron Maiden. The punk-oriented bands would inspire a genre known as crossover thrash.

"Speak English or Die" - Stormtroopers of Death

"Thrashard" - D.R.I.

"Liberty and Justice" - Agnostic Front

"Death Camps" - Cro-Mags

"Trip at the Brain" - Suicidal Tendencies

Meanwhile, in the thrash world, Jason Newsted's departure from Flotsam and Jetsam in 1986 to join Metallica created positive and negative effects. In Newsted, Metallica gained a hell of a bass player with his own distinct tone and attack. But Flotsam and Jetsam would be forced to recover from the departure of their lyricist. In 1987, Flotsam and Jetsam would recruit the services of a new bass player, shift songwriting duties, and release one of their best albums to date, No Place for Disgrace, the following year.

"No Place for Disgrace"

"Escape from Within"

Flotsam and Jetsam were one of the more underrated thrash bands of the era, but there were some other overlooked acts:

"Kill on Command" - Vio-lence

"A Room With a View" - Death Angel

"Discontinued" - Death Angel

While we're on the subject of thrash metal, it might be worthwhile to take a look at some of the instrumental work of the guitarists associated with the genre.

"Dragon Mistress" - Marty Friedman

"Return to Metalopolis" - Chris Poland

Whereas Poland was more influenced by fusion artists such as John McLaughlin, Friedman picked up a lot of inspiration from Japanese folk music. Speaking of which, Japan produced many fantastic metal bands in the 1980s, including Loudness and E-Z-O:

"The Law of Devil's Land" - Loudness

"Marionette" - Earthshaker

"Crazy Doctor" - Loudness

"Warning Action" - Anthem

"House of 1,000 Pleasures" - E-Z-O

You should give us some feedback, Acid, about whether you like any of these songs. I'll just continue to shoot a variety of tunes your way. Maybe you'll like them.

These are jazz/bop numbers, dating from the 1950s to the 1960s:

"Delilah" - Clifford Brown (feat. Max Roach, drums)

"Love for Sale" - Miles Davis

"Autumn Leaves" - Cannonball Adderley

"Ping Pong" - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers

"Fables of Faubus" - Charles Mingus

"Witch Hunt" - Wayne Shorter

Here are some of the fusion acts of the '70s and '80s:

"Birdland" - Weather Report

"Cannon Ball" - Weather Report

"Vulcan Worlds" - Return to Forever

"Million Dollar Legs" - Tony Williams Lifetime

"Mile High" - Yellowjackets

"One Word" - Mahavishnu Orchestra

"Majestic Dance" - Return to Forever

"City Nights" - Allan Holdsworth

"Port of Entry" - Weather Report

If all else fails, there's always this.

Well I remember listening to plenty of stuff.

I appreciated all the heavy metal propositions, but I think I will enjoy hearing them later, right now I'm so busy I always feel to tired to hear really loud metal. I'm still sure though that when all my work projects are over and I have time to chill, I'll return to this thread to check this tunes out again.

I'll now move on to the jazz propositions, keep you posted soon !

Some of Zesty's stuff was also really originial, unlike anything I had heard before... so I'll have to give it another listen, to see if I can get into it.

More than just Buckethead, Les Claypool, Bernie Worrell, and Bryan "Brain" Mantia.

Also, you posted the same link twice.
