Post Van Halen III
Hearing about news from Van Halen made me revisit Van Halen III.

I gotta say, that album isn't so bad, I think it's underrated.
It's clearly not Van Halen I, Mean Street or 1984, but I think it's alright.

However Eddie surely used a lot more accoustic guitars, and effects on his electric guitar... he doesn't have a raw tone like you'd expect from a hard rock, heavy metal entity such as Van Halen.

Anyone else wanna comment Van Halen III ?

Edit : typo

Yup. However I think of Van Halen III as a non Van Halen album, mislabelled as Van Halen.
I actually think of it as the Van Halen brothers and Michael Anthony teaming up with Gary Cherone to do a new experimental musical project. I'm sure if they had released it under a different band name, people wouldn't have hated that album so much. People probably expected to hear some classic Van Halen or some Van Hagar, and gave the album a thumb down after discovering it was nothing they expected.

When you let the idea that this album isn't Van Halen sink in, and prepare yourself to hear something completely different, you actually grow to like it.

I'm listening to it again now, to give a better review.

I kind of like the sitar solo.
That's about it.
That's all I remember, actually.

I had to acquire a taste for Van Halen III.

I'll gladly relisten to Motley Crue's self-titled album with John Corabi.

Now, to compare Van Halen III to St. Anger... ouch...

don't twist my words homie, I never said anything about those being my "favorite" VH, MC or Metallica albums (although the MC self titled is up there).... I just said they were NOT as bad as everyone claimed them to be...

BTW:
fave Queen albums are a tie between "Nite @ da Opera" & Day @ da races"......

AND....."Music from the Elder" although far from my fave KI$$ disc wasn't bad.....the solo discs (with the exception of Ace's) were BAD... :chew:

I'd long been listening to Extreme before Gary Cherone joined Van Halen, so maybe that gives me a different perspective than some people.
