Did you really like Th1rt3en ?

I thought it wasn't really good in the end. The best tracks on the CD were definitely the older ones.

I actually don't have a lot of new music for 2011 but I'd have to say:

1. Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
2. Cynic - Carbon-Based Anatomy
3. Brett Garsed - Dark Matter

EDIT:
4. Symphony X - Iconoclast (how the fuckin' hell did I forget about this?)

mmmm

I think this year wasn´t so strong with new releases.

I was heavily dissapointed by Megadeth´s new album.

Only records I found great were the new Anthrax, Richie Kotzen Saxon.

Mr. Big was also a good release.

Now wating for the new ACCEPT album!

I did. I didn't like the last two (UA and EG) because I don't think Dave spent any time developing vocal melodies to fit the music - the lyrics felt very forced. 13 was a step back towards better vocal melodies that work with the underlying music (granted, partially that was due to the fact that a lot of the tunes were old, but even some of the new ones worked better than anything on Endgame). Not saying 13 was as good as the classic Megadeth records, but it's one of the better post-Countdown Megadeth CDs, IMO.

Thougt that might get a response from you! I only really liked about four tunes on that CD, but it was a weak year for metal releases, and even if the songs didn't kick my ass, Paul's solos always do. But don't get me wrong - I hate that Paul is back with Mr. Big and I continue to pray to the Metal Gods that Paul will see the light and record again with Racer X before I die.

Wow, I found that 13 is maybe the worst Deth album since The world needs a hero (and that´s saying something) and the lyrics are among the dumbest and childish Dave has ever penned.

For me it was the biggest let down of 2011. It is gathering an awful lot of dust in my collection...

Well, I don't have such an extreme negative reaction to Th1rt3en, but I gotta say that on that album I prefer the older songs, and don't like some of the lyrics too.

In the end I think I'll consider Endgame as a better album than Th1rt3en.

Endgame is far more consistent as an album than 13...

I agree with Surg. Certainly, the last two Megadeth albums were heavy, but most of the vocals were either spoken in a low register or, as Surg mentioned, sounded forced. Many of the lyrics from United Abominations or Endgame could not breathe within the musical confines of the song, almost like Mustaine wrote the music and lyrics separately and never intended one to go with the other. Th1rt3en simply contains more of the Megadeth elements that I like; the album is heavy, but the vocals fit the music. It's true that some of the songs on the album are remakes of earlier tunes, but I'm not disappointed with that choice. After all, in 2010, Judas Priest received a Grammy award for a song written over thirty years ago. The major weakness to the new album, as you mentioned, is its consistency. I don't love every tune on the album, but the strong parts really shine through for me. At any rate, we're all entitled to our own opinions. ;) I would have to find time to once again listen to the album intently. I've been juggling an abundance of new music, however, and barely have the time to listen to my new Judas Priest albums!
