Post Former ALICE IN CHAINS Bassist Found Dead - Mar. 8, 2011
If anyone saw him on Celebrity Rehab you can't say you didn't see this coming, but its still sad news none the less... :(

RIP Mike.....

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TMZ.com reports that former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Starr died in Utah.

Starr's body was found in a Salt Lake City home today. Cops say they were called to the house at 1:42 p.m. Police do not suspect foul play.

Starr was 44 years old.

Mike's dad tells TMZ.com, "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."

Starr was arrested last month for felony possession of a controlled substance. Salt Lake City police said he had several painkillers on him when he was arrested.

Starr was featured as a cast member of the third season of the VH1 reality series "Celebrity Rehab With Dr. Drew". Hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, the season consisted of eight episodes that followed the real-life experiences of celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center.

Starr, a founding member of ALICE IN CHAINS, had been in legal trouble before in Seattle, Los Angeles, and Salt Lake City. His past charges include DUI, reckless driving, and various drug charges.

Back in April 1994, Starr was sentenced to 30 days in the Houston jail for misdemeanor drug possession. Starr was arrested at Houston's Intercontinental Airport while trying to check in for a flight to Los Angeles with a suitcase he had stolen from the baggage claim area. Authorities searched him and found he was carrying marijuana.

A fellow AiC-fan on my school told me yesterday. Like you said; not a bomb at all, but still very sad! Rest in peace Mike!

As Alex said...not a super shock after watching Celeb Rehab...but still sad. I thought he might make it, when he was on the next season and said he was straight 6 months....though he was probably lying.

Apparently Mike's death has caused Steven Adler to check back into rehab, so I guess he's still dealing with his demons as well...

That's the original guy, before Mike Inez replaced him, right?

Man, that sucks! A story that's all too common.

For what it's worth, thanks for staying clean & sober all these years, Paul Gilbert!

I can't honestly say hearing of this surprised me in the least.

I remember that Mike Starr was in another band before Alice In Chains, but I don't remember the name off the top of my head. After Alice In Chains, he was in Sun Red Sun.

Yeah. You could say Inez was the more "constant" bass player, as he's been with the band the longest. Starr, though, had a big place in the original line-up. I don't watch Celebrity Rehab, so I didn't know that Starr was on the show, nor did I know he was in such bad shape.
