Post Custom EVH Bumblebee VHII
What was once an old Peavy Raptor plus exp has turned into...

Image

Custom EVH Bumblebee VHII.

It took about 3 months start to finish with all the planning and painting and ordering of parts and waiting. It was my first attempt at painting so it was a great learning experience. I had a fun time working on it even though it was frustrating at times, but the final product was worth it. Below are pics from start to finish, at most of the stages in the process.

Image

Starting product, with all hardware removed

Image

Stripping off the paint

Image

It can get messy

Image

Primed, with wood filler on the no longer needed screw holes

Image

Note the holes in the pickup cavities have been filled with wood in order to accomodate direct-mounted pickups.

Image

Body painted yellow

Image

Taped

Image

Painted black over the tape

Image

Tape removed

Image

Back of guitar w/ custom logo :D

Image

This is the neck after 20 coats of clear, left to cure for over a month, and wet sanded down with up to 1500 grit sandpaper. Note the dull look

Image

Back of guitar half sanded. Note the difference in texture with the unsanded part having an "orange peel" texture

Image

Wet sanded and buffed.

Image

The shininess really starts to come out with the buffing

Image

Final product with hardware installed.

Pickups are X2N and area 67 (I know not the greatest combo right) Also volume pot was switched to dimarzio so the old know no longer fits, and a new switch was installed since the old one got messed when painting the pickguard.

Very happy with how it turned out :D

Very cool stuff man!

Great pictures of the process. You really did a good job getting the stripes exact. I'd swear Ed painted it himself.

Man... that is nicely done, and this is coming from somebody who doesn't normally like the EVH aesthetic (sacrilege, i know). Looks way cool, and it reflects the care you put into the job.
