McCartney. No competition. Paul made the bass badass.

I definitely agree, so many people missing. No Jeff Berlin, Jonas Hellborg, or Juan Alderete for that matter.

I didn't catch the poll in time, but it doesn't appear that the results have any validity given that Jaco Pastorius received less votes than Paul Gray. Even counting all the sympathy votes--and who deserves more sympathy than Jaco, who suffered from debilitating insecurities, mental anguish, and was beaten to death by a man twice his size--I still consider only a handful of the bassists on that list to be anywhere near Pastorius in terms of feel, technique, and innovation. He was truly in a league of his own. Yet only three percent of voters felt he was the "best." Right. Let's throw up a new poll on the same website and see how many people will regard Ronald McDonald a better guitar player than Shawn Lane--a hefty sum of idiotic voters, I'm sure.

I'd vote Ronald Mc Donalds for the lulz.

But in reply to what others have said: Nikki Six in my opinion is awesome because he took great part in the compositions of the Mötley Crüe songs. However, if you only think about Nikki Six purely as a bass player, he's good, but I definitely wouldn't say he is the best.

I can't believe John Deacon isn't on the list.
Not only did he write Queen's biggest selling single (amongst other awesome songs), he was a great bassist who wrote some of the most memorable bass lines in history.

Also, where is Juan? I know people may not know of his amazing playing in Racer X but Mars Volta are pretty big and a lot of bassists I know are big fans.

Lists like this always annoy me! :P

You're right. That alone discredits the entire article.

+1 to John Deacon.

He wrote the most catchy bass lines I've ever heard.

In fact, it's a shame he quit music after Freddie's death...
