Post How do I get that "whine" tone that Satch gets?
Wow, my first post here in....probably 7 years or so??

Anyways, I am trying to figure out how to get that "whine" that Satriani gets in "Always With Me, Always With You." It kind of sounds like he's using a wah pedal and keeping it in the down position the whole time. Someone also told me that compression was probably used. If that's the case, anyone know if there's a good compression pedal for that?

A couple other examples of a similar tone would be Steve Steven's tone in the Top Gun theme song, and also in this youtube video:

Skip ahead to :29, where the guitar starts.

I personally don't like his tone, and someone added a great pedal thread on these forums somewhere and as far as tone wise I haven't got a clue, but if you figure out if compression was used then you can check out that thread.

Joe's sound mainly consists of prominent mid-range e.q., presence, and a lot of smooth gain (possibly compression too). Yeah, sometimes a wah is used, but a lot of it is in the way he strikes with his picking hand.

Welcome back! :D
