Post Your Shred Licks
Post your favorite shred licks here.

Here's one of mine to start off:

It's a Pentatonic run in A Minor, three notes per string, in 4 octaves.

Sorry if this has been done before, I'm new to this site.

Starts up with a lick of doom from "Let The Computer Decide" and then kindah goes in my own thing, and then back to LTCD :P Good for practicing legato and stretching, although first part can be played with Alt. picking for most part!

I actually can't breakdown my playing AFTER I do it. If I had a thought bubble while I was playing, maybe that could work.

Legato sequence head tail middle 2-strings repeat in octaves double stop pre-bend slide vibrato to 3-string major arpeggio up 7th and root down major 7 arpeggio min7b5 up with chromatics etc.

I think my brain does something like that. O_O

@Will

I'd say moderatelly fast - around 120 - I feel quite comfortable with it. I can't play it standing up for shit tho  not even the "I'm from Iron Maiden and I put mu leg on PA" trick works :P

I'm trying to get it faster and cleaner at 140-160 now :P

At 160bpm?! I'd have to see a vid to confirm that!

Hey, come on, I said I'm working to get there. It's my target :P

Right now I'm playing it at 120bpm with let's say 80% accuracy on a bad day :P

Sure, I'll get around to making a vid some time when I get a web cam again (haven't recorded for sooo long just because I can't make videos!).

It's a really sick lick in E min, and I think the positioning I did for the second part is actually quite comfortable. But man, try playing it without your guitar going completelly vertical and I'll buy you a bear. Make it a 6 pack :P

Sorry, but I don't see a point in playing extremely fast and be limited to sit down while doing it.

Instead of practicing the lick at 160 bpm, why don't you try 120 standing up? :D

Although when you get the lick you're playing to a crazy speed you're gonna be way more comfortable playing it slower, soe that's kindah my point :P When I get comfortable enough playing it at say 140, then I'll be playing it at 120bmp 100% every time, ya know? :P

I'm gonna eventually get to where I can play it in "Iron Maiden PA" position :P

ok i re-read,

80% accuracy is useless in this style, and in particular, a lick like that.

Would still love to see a video of it

and (IMO) it's doubtable playing it with 80% accuracy in one speed will ever get you to a 100% in another...

I'm not saying I'm Mr.Patience in person, who moves on 2 bpms only when he's got it down flawless 20 times in a row, but that's why I still suck I guess...

Well, playing 80% accuracy at 160bpm can get you 100% at 120, don't you think? :P

I mean, you have a lick you can only play sitting down, and you can play it really clean every once in a while, but not always.

Even though, you eventually start playing it faster just for the kicks and because you need it for some song or whatever. And by actually forcing yourself to pay it faster you get more proficient at doing it, and well you practice it more, still have the fun and end up being more confident while playing it at lower speeds. Resulting in being able to play it clean while standing up, with a guitar up your ass or whatever

Then you just repeat the process again to get it even faster. I mean - you have to push yourself somehow. It's not like you can get a 100% accuracy on a lick at 120bpm and then a 100% accuracy at 140, 160 or w/e BPM without actually trying and forcing yourself to play faster beforehand.

Hope you get my way of thinking. BTW - we're spamming the thread and it's not "your shred licks" anymore but "speed building for freaks"
