Post RIP Peter Steele
TYPE O NEGATIVE manager Mike Renault has confirmed to CBS News that the band's frontman, Peter Steele, has died.

In an email, Renault said, "Peter passed away last night. As of now it appears to have been heart failure. That's all the details we have right now."

According to unconfirmed reports, Steele had been ill for days leading up to his death.

TYPE O NEGATIVE's web site left a message to their fans this morning around 5:15 a.m. It read, "The forums have been re-opened. Please play nice and expect statements from the band and family later today. Thank you for your understanding and support."

Steele was born Petrus T. Ratajczyk on January 4, 1962 in Brooklyn, New York. He stood 6' 7" (201 cm) tall, and had a low, bass-heavy voice, which was one of the most recognizable features in TYPE O NEGATIVE's music.

Before forming TYPE O NEGATIVE, Steele played for the metal group FALLOUT and the thrash band CARNIVORE.

This is a really big shock, and sad to hear. I definitely didn't expect to be reading this. Rest in peace.

That f*cking sucks! :x
I loved Type O Negative!

Hell, it's my blood type.

Maybe it's just me but unless it was hereditary, that sounds kind of young to just have heart failure.
He didn't want to be immortal.

It's odd.

He was 48, and seemed to have good health... at least physically.

But as far as I know, it seems that he was ill for a while, and was hospitalized.

I didn't expect to read that. Steele had a unique voice and there's no question that he was a talented musician. I'm saddened by the news of his passing.

I though I'd posted in this thread earlier, but I don't see a post of mine here.

Anyway, I've listened to Type O Negative some, though not near as much as I have a lot of other bands I listen to.

Still, this sucks.

I've always known Type O Negative, but they really grew on me for the past months, maybe a year by now.

My brothers from the US saw them live, and Type O was one of their fav bands of all time. I was expecting to see them live someday...

damn.

PG and I were talking about low vocals in rock and I mentioned Steele/Type O. Paul had never heard of them. A band with a big, distinctive sound.

I covered Black No.1 at the second gig I ever played.
