Post Learning Trilogy Suite Op. 5
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaV-I5C90zk

Well... I'm just asking if any of you has ever tried. I've learnt the main descending melody which is pretty fun and fast but I haven't learned the tiny two string arpeggio sweeps part and the rest of the song (which consists pretty much of a whole bunch of cool solos).

Oh I've learnt the acoustic part too.

And then I figured I should learn the intro (which consists of three shred licks and three big chords... that intro lasts about 13 seconds), but it was very hard and frustrating so I stopped learning Trilogy suite and moved onto learning easier songs, but every time I picked up the guitar, I would practice for a few minutes the first little bit of Trilogy suite's intro (the first three seconds). Over the last few months, all these very short practicing sessions have enabled me to play that tiny intro bit quite fast, I would like to say super fast, but that would be bragging and really, with my skills, I can't brag.

So, very confident, I decided to see if I had finally managed to play it as fast as Yngwie, and I tried to play along with the record and with a backing track. After some time struggling to start in synch with Yngwie... I figured I WAS A LITTLE BIT TOO SLOW!!! FUCK!!! HOW THE FUCK DOES HE DO IT!?

In the song, before the first big chord of the intro (it's a big Gb major I think) there is a silence, and when I play along, I play the last couple of notes of the shred lick inside that silence. That's because I'm too slow, but fuck, did he speed it up with a computer or something? I mean he doesn't even play it as it is on the record when he plays live, he uses a much easier lick with less notes.

So has anyone tried it too?... Does anyone have advice? (exept burn my guitar along with my clothes and start roaming naked through the woods like a haunted maniac?)

I've been fascinated by this song for a long time, and I first tried the acoustic part, then the intro with the two strings arpeggios. Forget about the three opening scales, too hard!
I don't have any advice, but don't start too fast, as usual. Well, for the 2 strings tricky arps, your fingers should just play the note and leave the fretboard to keep it as clean as possible. Anyway that's a difficult sequence.
Here's my attempt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnJ41y26Tqs

Here's me playing the opening scale.

It sounds like it's fast enough, but it isn't... the take on that video was made on my crappy web cam, and as usual when I perform for an audience, I tense up, so I know it's a lame excuse but: that wasn't my best shot.

If I ever have to play Trilogy Suite segments in front of friends, I'll definitely have to play it slower, or use a simpler intro.

I've been working on that song as well, it's killing me!! Especially the 2-string arpeggioes.

this intro kicks my ass, but that song was the FIRST shred song i heard/liked, and the first technical piece i tried learning. i had no idea what i was getting in to! a year later and i could barely pretend to play along! a few years later now, and it's still a mess..
