Post Gone Too Far Arpeggio Help
Hi, can someone help me out with this sweep form ‘’Gone Too Far’’ form Second Heat:

Image

Not to play it, but understand it theory wise. I have taught myself for a few months now and picked up quite a bit from Yngwie and of course Paul and Bruce, but I don’t know every thing…

I worked out this is a E maj arpeggio from ‘’Scarified’’ Root [E], 3rd [G#], 5th [B] and Octave [E]

Image

But the E arpeggio in ‘’Gone Too Far’’ is Root [E], 3rd [G#], 5th [B] then 7th [D#] and then Octave [E]

It’s the 7th [D#] that confused me… :?

Can any one explain this? Is there a special name for this sweep?

EMaj7 I think, there's the root, 3rd, 5th, and 7th from an e major scale.

Ooow  , that explains it :) thanks :D

So would it be played over a Emaj or Emaj7 or can it be played over both :?

So you can play it over G# something… :?

Can you briefly explain how you figure out what you can play that arpeggio over, or at least suggest where I can find more about it
Thanks

basically you could, if u want, play it over anything although it won't necesarily sound any good.

the "best" chords to play over are gonna be the ones that have the same notes as the arpeggio. by "best" i mean most stable sounding. its gonna start sounding pretty hideous if u play over random chords though might find some cool idea through trial and error.

yeah you could play it over G#m (G#, B, D#) tho the E in the arpeggio will sound a little "out" as its the b6, and the only tonalitly that contains this is mixolydianb6 (and harmonic major, but you dont hear that sound very often)

Try it over C#m then you have

E - b3
G# - 5
B - b7
D# - 9

so outlining a C#m9

you can learn this all from a good book on harmony and extended chords, or better yet, get a good teacher

as i always say to people and students, never walk before running, dont jump ahead on harmony, take a few months learning about the major scale, triads contained within etc etc, know it inside out before moving on or you only cheat yourself

good luck \m/

Bruce's instructional video has some info as to what arpeggios go with what chords. If you can find a copy.
