Post Alder PGM body + maple fretboard sound
So I just purchased an alder PGM style replacement body and I'm about to shop for necks. Does anyone have experience combining maple fretboards and alder bodies? I've read alder is a bright sounding wood, and the same for maple. I'm wondering if the two together is a bad idea.

thx :)

Alder body + Maple neck is standard for most guitar companies. I've dozens of guitars like this (mostly Carvins) and they all sound great. and if you're shopping around for necks look into the Carvin necks. I believe you can have them made to fit an Ibanez style body. You can get custom woods and inlays and everything at a good price.

Thanks guys. Wow I didn't realize you could get carvin to make a neck that fits Ibanez. Cool!

Yep. I'm guessing it's some kind of option 50 thing that you'd need to special order. I think it can look really cool though!

It's a nice combo I think. My JB tribute is alder body + maple neck/fretboard
and it's sweet. :P

I even have a maple (body) + maple neck/fretboard guitar, I thought that
combo would be way too bright but it sounds amazing.

Swamp ash (body) + maple (neck/fretboard) is my favorite though
(I have several guitars with that combo and they all sound different).
There so much difference between various pieces of wood that it's
hard to generalize really (imo).

Cool thanks, now I'm stoked to get the project going. I went ahead and bought an AANJ super wizard with maple fretboard off Ebay. I'll post pics when I'm done (may be a while - I have a deep queue of things to do in 2010).
