I like them both alot. I just thought I'd make an appreciation thread as there seems to be a lot of naysayers.
good call on the alder/ash deal too, those A woods got me brain confuzzled.

At first I wasn't so crazy about it...but it's grown on me, and I love the PGM401 now.

The 401 is strangely appealing to me, but the fireman is better IMO, but I still love it

It's out of place. But I don't think it sucks.

+1. Mediocre on looks, probably sounds awesome and very thick. It looks like it will sound that way.

Hey all, new to the board here. For the past several years been playing primarily Charvel/Jackson. But in the past year I've purchased the PGM301, yellow RG550 reissue, both 770 reissues, Mahogany RG220, and today put my deposit down with Ibanezrules for a PGM401.
I understand the reasons why some people here don't like it. But for me, I'm totally digging the "classic" look of it. I have enough bright, obnoxious colored guitars...for now.

The 401 looks fantastic.
But, that 3 single coil Fireman guitar is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Is Ibanez going to do a production model (not a limited run, either) of that guitar?
More on topic though, yes, the 401 is an awesome design, and if I can never get that Fireman into my arms, then I know the 401 will find a place in my collection.

OK so, It's clear from live pics that Pauls is a Square heeled version of the neck joint and that the production seems to be AANJ possibly.
also, I've heard that the neck on that is considerably thicker than his normal pgms?
While I don't really want another square heeled ibanez (Got 2), Its a tad lame they aren't going to his true specs.
but the gas is growing for this guitar like crazy. Almost more so than the fireman.

The neck dimensions listed on the Ibanez Japan website are the same as the current 301 (2mm wider at the last fret then the older PGM profile). Its not thicker than normal like Pauls might be unless they posted wrong info online.

ya thats where I read it, and got a tad bummed. Although really, as a PGM fanboy, I'm bummed, cause it's not HIS guitar, but as a player, I prefer the AANJ and og PGM dimensions anyway.
