Ok...

Who did Jimi Hendrix say was his "favorite" guitarist?

Hint* He is still very active and his band was featured in a live concert on one of the music channels last month.

Well.. I'l be danged. Hubert wasn't who I was looking for. But in the sake of fairness I looked it up and apparently Jimi had more than one favorite guitarist. I was looking for:

Billy Gibbons of ZZ top:
From http://www.xtrememusician.com/info/arti ... s/982.html

Billy Gibbons
Born: March 4, 1950
Houston, TX, USA

Billy also played in a early sixties band called The Coachman and then in a great band called The Moving Sidewalks. The Moving Sidewalks toured with Jimi Hendrix one season. Jimi is quoted (in the book "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" as calling The Moving Sidewalks the "best garage band in America" and Billy Gibbons his "favorite guitarist." Jimi gave Billy a pink Strat on this tour stating "it's too pretty to burn."

BUT (and that's a big but)...
Hubert Sumlin
http://www.hubertsumlin.com/hubertsumlinmain.html (and about 20 other places)

"Hubert is the heaviest, most original guitar player I've ever heard in my life and that's the truth."
- Stevie Ray Vaughan
"My favorite guitarist is Hubert Sumlin."
- Jimi Hendrix

"Hubert Sumlin is truly amazing!"
- Eric Clapton

I guess it depended on when you asked Jimi... So it looks like the next question is Dreamer's have at it..

Perhaps in the future, a 24hr time limit to post a new question ... then it could be open for anyone to post a new question if the previous person fails to post one. Just a suggestion.

yOUR QUESTION?

Rock n' roll trivia is my thing. Getting on Rock and Roll Jeapordy was a life goal for a while until I found out that unlike the real Jeapordy where you get to keep ALL of the money you win, the cheap bastards at Vh-1 capped winnings at $5,000.

The next question is:
What do Kingdom Come's debut cd, the Cult's Sonic Temple and Metallica's black album all have in common? Hint, it's not the same record company.
