 Sacrifice (Not 'Scarified')
I was listening to Second Heat the other day and I thought, "you know what, this may be the best damn Racer X song over written". A year or more ago there was a thread on tjis and Paul responded to it, and the question was posed, "are there any live videos of this song". Paul said they definitely played it live a few times. So I ask, "are there any live videos of this song?"

Love that song! Great opener to that cd! I always wondered how they got some of those scary mean squeals & groans off the beginning & end of that song.

when people ask why im so obsessed with some obscure forggotten old '80s metal band... this is the song i play for them.
(it used to be scarified, but i've finally graduated past that..)
its not my favorite, per se, but i definitely think its their best composed song ever. everything about it, every change, every theme, the way it transitions about.. its a brillaint composition.
i would KILL for video of them playing it. if only to see pauls opening lick.. i have HUGE hands, but i swear, it's not humanly possible..

yeah that stretch use to kill me, but your fingers do get more elastic with practice.
Infact i contemplated quitting guitar because i thought the end arpeggio's of Scarified were IMPOSSIBLE for my fingers to play. I just couldnt reach it, now i find it fairly easy. Practice FTW!
funny thing, i was sooo determind to learn that big lick that i think i 'willed' my left hand to grow, because i kid you not, all my fingers on my left hand are longer then my right, especially my ring finger, its more then 1/2 a centimeter longer! wtf!

Haha! dude the scarified arpeggious killed my fingers at first! omg from Kirk Hammet penatonic licks to those arpeggios But now i do it easy.
The Sacrifice arpeggios fellt extremly hard to in the beggining. But they are not impossible!
The second part of your post was just scary man...

As a matter of fact, I was listening "Second Heat" today, and what an awesome record it is.
Sacrifice kicks ass, but the beggining riff of "Gone to far" owns that album.

If your talking about the second break in the intro with this really sick staccato monster sweeping run, that lick is actually played by Bruce Bouillet. And yeah the riff from Gone Too Far is beyond sick. Whenever I play it anywhere people are always lick, 'whoa, what was that last thing you played!'
What is ever more amazing is that Racer X managed to be one of the only bands in history with a second album that burns their first. Maybe that's why it's called 'Second Heat'???
