Post Racer X members and education.
I was just wondering.

when you become a great musician and are dedicated to music, do you give up any other form of knowledge, like maths, physics, biology and all this stuff we learn at school?

I was wondering, can Paul, John, Jeff and Scott do stuff like solve crazy maths equations, or write an essay about meiosis in cells, or tell us about second degree differential equations?

how about litterature?

does becoming a good musician pretty much mean giving up all the rest?

For me it did! But no, that's not true. Look at zappa, he was a mad-man! or Shawn lane, the list can go on forever!

It just depends on the person i guess! I dont know if any of the RX dudes finished school. But remember, PLENTY of dropouts suceed in life. I'm not saying for you to dropout, or ANYONE for that matter. But i think if you have your education already, you should be able to.

But then again, i don't have an education for myself! :P

^I was just wondering what it takes to become a great musician

I just wondered, because Paul seems like a guy who could be pretty good at maths from what I see sometimes on threads. I read stuff like he was good at chess, that means he's pretty good at mind puzzles.

Brian May was doing Maths and Playing music at the same time and he did well in both. But he's the only case I've heard about.

Well its really two different things... you have to go to school even though you play guitar, IF you fail. Then your screwd for the rest of your life... You can be concentrated at the guitar at the same time doing school work you know :)

Paul Gilbert on school - "My parents took me out to see some colleges, I thought they were nice and all but I just wanted to play guitar all the time and thought 'If I go here I'll have to study math or something' so I decided to go to GIT"

or something like that, I remember it from an interview i saw.

I can gather that Paul is pretty intelligent, as well as the other band members, jsut through living. I mean, Paul mentions Osmosis in that interview, and he always uses big words
