Post Strings,Strings,and More Strings
Since everyone freaked out when they heard PG was using "8's" in the studio I wanted to know what every one uses. I have been playing on 10's but have moved up to 11's since I've been tuning down a whole step. With 9's or 10's on my guitar they just flapped. My Coronet has a shorter scale(ala Gibson) so you have to factor that in!
Also what kind of strings do you use.....Me, D'Addario.

I use 9's. Either GHS Boomers or D'Addario.

I use 9's. Usually Ernie Ball's unless I get something else free. I rarely have to change strings because my hands don't sweat like most guys' do. My brother used to go through a set a week (ewww).

Never tried 8's. When I start practicing regularly I will have 10's on one guitar or I'll practice on an acoustic with high action.

I use electric guitar strings. Thin ones (11's, I think...D'Addario super-lights I think) but I think I should do an Yngwie and go heavy down low for that SRV type definition and "thunk" and keep light up high.

I have used D'Addario 9s for ten years straight until last month when I tried out a set of Ernie Ball 9s. I kind of wish I would have tried these guys a looooooooong time ago. Great strings.

for the past year I've been using Dean Markley 10's. Not the Blue steel, but just the regular Dean Markleys. I can't really find the difference in brands of strings.

10 to 46 (tuned normally).

When we recorded our first album, I tried several brands: d'Addario, Maxima, Ernie Ball, Elixer. Elixer strings last very long, especially the D, A and low E. The tone is really 'balanced' and corrosion doesn't affect the bottom string at all. It still has that bright sound after playing for months! The bright tone of for example d'Addario, fades after a couple of days playing.

I had the exact same enlightenment. I used D'Addario 9s also. I just accepted that I would break 1 high E and 1 B every few days. I got fed up and tried Ernie Balls and now I rarely break a string and I think they have a better sound too.

I use the Neon Green Packs of Ernie Ball (10 - 46) for all of my guitars and my 7 stringers have a 60 for the low B.

I use "9"'s that I get from webstrings.com.. If you buy 12 or more sets at a time, you can get them for $2.30 per pack and shipping is free..

Ernie Ball .009-.042 on the Ibanez (Ernie Ball likes us...they really like PG...)
GHS Zakk Wylde .010-.060 and .011-.070 on my other guitars. (GHS likes me...they really like Zakk)

Hey Chad, did you have to do any work to your guitar's nut slot to take the 60 and 70? I've thought about trying one of the Zakk sets but have not got around to it.
I also like Ernie Ball strings but I like how D'addario has the whole earth safe stuff going on, my wife has made me a recycling mad man.
The funny thing about EB strings is they are made by D'addario. They also make Danelectro's strings(about $1 cheaper).
Ive had good luck w/most strings (GHS,d'addario,EB,D.Markley)except Fender strings, they seem to go dead in a mater of days.

Gino

With the ZW strings, the standard set, I didn't have to do any mods. With the ZWlo's, I had to carve out the nut a bit. Little teflon and graphite, it's all good.

Seemingly the only one on here, i use D'addario 8's. I thought they would be prone to snapage, but they beak no more than 9's! The other cool thing is their super light, so mega scary fast licks are more just kinda scary and fast.

for me it depends on the guitar... I use 10's on my Jem, 8's on my Kramer and 9's on my Fender Strat (all Dean Markely btw)...X

p.s. Oh forgot about the D'addario's I use on my Ovation 12-string...
