I love that riff. Classic Paul, classic Racer X.

Who's The Reaper? Should we fear him? (the soundclick link)

Certainly is.

Well according to that link, I'm the reaper. 8)

Sweat. Then I'll know who I'm listening to. Pick up on the style.

Your interpretations will give me a clue to your individual style of guitar playing... if my ear is good...

Hmm, might be a bit tricky since I play most stuff note for note so it's kinda hard to hear my "style". I just copy everyone else. I suppose I used alot of the hybrid blues scale thing that Paul came up with because it's easy to play etc but apart from that, I don't think I have any style. I'm not happy with my playing at all.

Sometimes other listeners can help discern that, though ultimately you do have to fine-tune yourself.

Are we allowed to post stuff from the UK magazine Guitar Techniques? Their copyright for articles only lasts for 6 months from publishing date. I am aware of the if it's sold for profit then you can't post it rule and you guys have the final say....

If that is true then the only reason I would think that you can't post them would be if Ken works for a UK magazine.

I can't find proof, just from what forum moderators have said on two occasions. Oh well, nevermind now.

If publishers don't want people to pirate tablature books and lesson videos they should at least bother to keep them in print. I challenge anyone here to name a place you can find 'Street Lethal', Vinnie Moore's 'Mind's Eye' or ever Macalpine's 'Maximum Security' Jap books other than ebay. (not that the majority of the tabs within are correct anyway, mind you. What's the point of having a tab book if you have to change all of the positions yourself?) Just my two cents.

I have been saying pretty much the same thing all along myself. Some transcribers ,though of obvious skill, don't even bother to get it right. They just throw something out there, get paid, and move on to the next hastily prepared tabbing book project.

I'm a regular over at forum.intermusic.com (the Guitarist/Guitar Techniques/Total Guitar forums), and I'm pretty familiar with Future Publishing, which makes them.

Hi Bingefeller, I've seen you around. I'm DLM over there, but I was here first, years ago.

This is a little skewed to my mind. As far as I understand it, Future only gets time-limited licences to publish copyright material (i.e. TABs and recorded demonstrations of copyright musical compositions). That's why you can't access back issues of Guitar Techniques online for a fee, as you can with Germany's Gitarre & Bass, for example.

However, strictly speaking, the magazine publishing company's own copy/artwork/pictures is/are copyright too (i.e. everything apart from the TAB). Hence copying and redistributing that would be in breach of copyright. That's why posting stuff from a magazine on here will be a no-no.

What's the difference is between someone not being allowed to post a tab book and someone posting live shows of Racer X or Badlands? I'm asking this civilly and not trying to cause a whole debate. Just would like to know. Thanks. Surely both are copyrighted?

The difference is one is available commerically and the other is not. Bootleg shows are offered for die hard fans who presumably already own the band's entire discography. They are not taking away any income from the band because the material is not available for sale. Tab books are commericially available products and if someone gives out free copies it reduces sales of the legitimate product.

I would never pay money for tab books. Never. I made an exclusion from that rule 5 years ago, when I bought PGs officially published Tab book of Intense Rock 2. Its even signed by this dude. Nice stuff there. And I even bought als his instructional videos. I used to be a serious fan.

Are the old racer X books even available anymore? If they are only available used it would not harm the bands income, so why not share?

I am specifically looking for the tab book for Second Heat. If anyone knows where to buy it, i would indeed do so, but if its not buyable i wouldnt mind if someone sent me a PM with "other means" of getting it.

I care about supporting Racer X, but violating a copyright that must be broken to be able to view said material will hardly keep me awake at night. I think its better to learn the songs and spread the Racer X love, than honor a copyright that no longer gives Racer X money in the bank. ;)

I suspect Powertabs and Guitar Pro files will deliver more accurate transcriptions for playing what Paul calls "copy tunes" nowadays, unless one wants to hold a piece of history in one's hands, of course...

thats true, if you look up the reasons guitar techniques cant have their transcriptions avalible on their website you see its because the copyright only lasts for 6 months
