 10 Confessions of a Racer X fan(atic)
well I just got back from dinner with a couple of friendswho kept buying pint after pint so I'm more than a little buzzed. Here's a new one:
1. After 12 years of listening to Racer X, wtithin the last month I'm just starting to really dig Moonage Daydream.
2. My favorite song BYFAR by Racer X is Scarified, and I'mjust about to nail it on guitar.
3. I was quite disappointed with Getting Heavier at first, now I absolutely LOVE it. This is not an uncommon reaction to albums that I've bought which eventually become favorites.
4. John Alderete reminds me so much in appearance of a guy I used to work with, it's scary.
5. I think Loud and Clear on Extreme Volume I is a ton better than the studio version.
6. I would gladly give up a week's pay to see Racer X perform live. GLADLY.
7. I think that Jeff Martin's voice gets better with every album released.
8. Paul's playing has really matured since the first album. Then, it was more 3-note-per string scales, now it's one of the most unique blazing yet melodic voices that the guitar world has ever seen.
9. My favorite album production has to be Second Heat. It has a fuller sound and I think the extra reverb makes it rock harder than just about anything I've ever heard. The intro to Heart of a Lion (especially that SQUEALING harmonic) just slices me apart like a razor sharp ginsu knife.
10. I think Paul looks better with long hair (I used to have long hair too, so I think I understand why he cut it).
11. (And one to grow on) - I've always thought the girl (the assistant) on Paul's Intense Rock Volume I video is smokin, hairspray and all.
That's my story, and I'm stickin to it...

I have some confessions too.
10) Well... Im kinda disappointed with Getting Heavier! Sorry guys!
9) I agree, Paul looked jazzier with the long hair! Seriously!
8: I still havnt been able to get into "Sunlit Nights" after all this time
7) John and Paul are both giant influences to my bass playing!
6) Sometimes I wonder how Scarified would sound like with vocals...
5) Pyroclastic said it; that chick from Intense Rock 1 is SMOKIN baby!
4) I've never liked Racer X's studio sound... (sorry guys, I love the music!)
3) I felt bad that Racer X was so guitar oriented in the 80s that John had no room to move (hardly)
2) I still think Racer X should be getting more publicity; it seems awkward that they arent
1) I found Racer X while looking for a porno song!

Don't know if I can come up with 10, let's see ...
1. I think Paul is totally cool and I love his playing, but I wish he would devote a little more time to Racer X and a little less time to his solo career.
2. I was secretly a little disappointed that they released SOD II, because prior to that I could brag that I was in the audience of every live Racer X CD.
3. I'm completely addicted to this message board ... I read every single post every single day (except when I'm on vacation ... but I try to read everything I missed when I get back)
4. Even though I think Paul is the best guitar player on the planet, I don't try to emulate his style when I play ... I almost never play arpeggios, I can't sweep pick to save my life, and I rarely play string skipping licks (but I do like a lot of his three-note per string licks).
5. I'm kinda pissed at Bruce for trying to hide his Racer X past.
6. I think Bruce's solo on Extreme Volume I is better than Paul's.
7. I'm extremely jealous that some Japanese fan has the "Racer X" guitar.
8. I downloaded "Superheroes" from Napster before it was released (even before it was released in Japan). I subsequently bought a Japanese import when they became available.
9. I have the pullout poster of Paul and Bruce from Guitar for the Practicing Musician magazine framed and hanging in my music room.
10. I can't think of another confession.

Woah. So when he came back, was he like "...where'd this scratch come from?"

1.) I'm glad Racer X got back together, but I'm also glad that they are all realists and know that they're not going to sell huge in America, and not playing to 1/2 full clubs across the USA.
2.) The best part of Racer X is the way the fab four's senses of humor interract.
3.) It's really easy to spend hundreds of dollars on sushi with these guys.
4.) I don't fault Bruce for hiding his past. It's not his doing, it's all Boris.
5.) I don't fault PG for concentrating on his solo projects. He basically owns Japan. Racer X does some damage in sales over there, but PG solo stuff is through the roof.
6.) I still jam to at least 4 RX songs a day.
7.) The only reason I have a purple guitar is because it was Paul's.
8.) I think my Laney sounds better than my Bogner.
9.) People who think EVH stole the drill thing from Paul are jagoffs. DAS RIGHT...I SAID IT.
10.) I consider Jeff, Scott, Paul, and John my friends, and they're the nicest guys I could have ever met in a job arena and career full of assholes.

Sorry to beat the dead horse, but Eddie was using appliances with his pickups way before Paul stuck picks on the end of a drill bit. Remember the hair dryer in the 1984 days? I think the video was Jump or Panama.

Well, thanks for the backup, but the hairdryer was only in the Panama video during the "woosh" sound.
I can tell you first hand that had Edward done this in his studio, bad things would have happened. Here's the backlog.
When I moved to Arizona right before my 8th grade year, I told my parents I wanted to play guitar. I had this cool uncle who worked for Prosound in Colorado springs who had a '76 or '78 tele (don't remember) that I got from him on our way moving from MN to AZ, and Crate G10 amp.
Anyway...I saw the Panama video later that summer and said...dude...I wonder if the hairdryer thing works? Now my Mom and my sister didn't have a normal every day little travel hair dryer. This thing said BLITZKREIG across the side of it and was painted camoflauge, and doubled as a howitzer.
So I plug my tele in, crank up that little crate as loud as it can go, turn up the volume on the guitar, plug in the hair dryer, hit the fan on HIGH and HOT. There I am...on my little single bed...hand in the air...fretting a G chord and I move the nozzle of the hair dryer down to the single coil pickup and the lighning bolt that they used on BACK TO THE FUTURE to get the Delorean back to '85 launched itselef between the hairdryer and my guitar. Before I knew it, I watched a fireball come OUT of the plug in socket, launch across the room RIGHT into the other socket across from it. All the hair on my head was standing straight up and I couldn't feel my right hand.
All in all, I lived, and it was pretty fuckin' cool to see a lightning bolt come out of the hairdryer to my guitar, pop the amp and then a BALL of FIRE fly from one outlet to another.
This message has been brought to you by the Coalition to STOP guitarists from using blowdryers as cool effects.

deja vu LOL
Quote: I did that once, but I was standing in a puddle of wat...no wait...it was gasoline! Yeah, that's the ticket! And I burned for 8 days. And when I finally woke up guess who was next to me. ...You Guessed it, Some guy from the RacerX board. I asked him how he was and he said "eh, not so good." So I cast an evil spell on him and narrowly escaped the dragon...I mean, I flew away on...no, I mean I Teleported into Madonna's bedroom. Yeah, that's it.

For those of you who don't know.....Boris is the singer for Epidemic(Bruce's current band).I know Chad does'nt like Boris very much, but Boris is very cool to me and we still talk every now and then.Either way,Chad is correct.Even though I've never disscused any of this with Boris.I believe this to be true. One time I went to see Bruce and Epidemic, and took some RacerX garb with me to have Bruce sign.Of course Bruce DID this for me(he is a GREAT guy),but then he asked me to HIDE all the X stuff whenever Boris came around.Pretty weird,eh??Anyways, you're all on CRACK if you think Bruce is ashamed of his past.Bruce will talk your face off about RacerX..........really GREAT stories.

1. Nearly asked a girl out only because her roommate was friends with Paul and he visited her when he came back to Pburgh (back in 89-90...I don't believe Paul can find Pittsburgh on a map anymore)
2. Stole Paul's picks and set list from a mr. big show
3. Have every note and nuance of Second Heat burned on my brain
4. Am disappointed in some of Paul's solo work, particularly his slower love songs.
5. Was elated when Paul responded to an email I sent him regarding an anitquated fuzzbox he was looking for back when his web site first opened.
6. Have my "Ceral Killer" poster ready and waiting to be signed the first chance I get
7. Think that Bruce brought out the best in Paul as demonstrated on Second Heat
8. Secretly hope that there is something in the water in Western PA that will syncronize your picking hand and fretting hand at high speed
9. Originally thought Racer X was gimmicky speed metal purposefully recorded at high speed
10. Was orginally put off by some of Jeff's lyrics, but grew to like them a lot.
