Share your knowledge of Paul's "missing tracks"
I know Paul has had some CD singles over the years with some extra tracks that appeared nowhere else. I thought it would be informative to start a thread to share our knowledge of them. (Paul should release them together at some point.)
I'll start with "Bennie and the Jets" and "Lucy Brown" that were bundled on some single (I don't even know which).
The first one is an Elton John cover from his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. I wasn't sure how Paul was going to cover a song written on piano, but he did an excellent job with it. My only complaint is that the mix has no reverb at all, which is odd for a song where the original version sounded like it was taped in an arena. I've actually made myself my own mix of it with reverb and it sounds a lot better (at least to my ears).
The other song, "Lucy Brown" is very cool. It reminds me of Elvis Costello's "Pump It Up" with its driving beat. The lyrics tell a great, humorous story and are quite clever.

I heard people talk about the "Bennie and the Jets" and said it was amazing.
I've been trying to find the song but with no luck...

Is it OK to share these?
I love "Oh Jenor", great beatlesque singalong. I also would love to hear "Bennie", since I think the original is a pop masterpiece, and PG can only make it better!

I managed to get the 3 singles that were released in japan(vinyl, girls who can read your mind &individually twisted) in addition to these there was the bonus track (i do ) on the japanese king of clubs & 2 bonus tracks on flying dog(barbie bang your head & las vegas xmas)
There's also loads of tracks that were recorded for guitar magazines & ones on various albums(tribute albums ,soundtracks & other artists cd's)
most of the mr big cd's came with extra tracks in japan!
Its pretty frustrating trying to get a hold of all those recordings!!

I might be wrong but the Beethoven's 5th and Somewhere Over The Rainbow were played by someone else. I know that Chris Impetrelli did Somwhere Over the Rainbow.

Paul actually used to have some rare recordings posted on his web site. I have them somewhere (I think). One is a song from one of his earlier solo albums, but the lyrics are in Spanish. Another is a cover of Cheap Trick's "Oh Carolina."

You're refering to "I'm Just in Love" that Paul sings in spanish. I really like the cover of a Puffy AmiYumi song that Paul does called "Ai no Shirushi"

No one mentioned Beck-ola? Or El-Becko, or something like that. His ode to Jeff Beck!

lol.. El Becko.. that's a pretty cool cover.. I think the original intro is on keyboards.. sounds cooler when PG plays it on guitar .
Hawking cover from Becker tribute is a very nice cover too.
I also have some guest/solo appearances tracks.. Vulgar Boatman (Gregg Bissonette) and... Jesus Will Reign (Darrell Mansfield) (songwise I have to say I like PG's 'I am Satan' better.. )

Is this from a Darrell Mansfield release? Any idea how Paul got hooked up with him? (He's a Chrsitian blues singer and a first-class blues harp player.)

Darrell Mansfield
Revelation (1985, Broken Records)
This Christian artist (vocalist and harmonicist) was part of the band Gentle Faith, and in 1977, he formed his own Darrell Mansfield Band. In this album, recently remastered on CD, he has Paul Gilbert for his first ever recording, guesting on two tracks.

Darrell Mansfield, Revelation (guitar, guest on Jesus will Reign and After the storm)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Funnily enough Darrell was in Alaska last month. They offered me the bass slot for all of his dates but I had to turn them down as I would miss too many days of work and don't have any form of leave(becoming responsible stinks sometimes)
P.S. You must check out Paul's playing on Jeff Berlin's "Pump It"!

Of course: I don´t have much information about most of them, but I can give you my opinion.
Mont Fuji Christmas: Instrumental. I looked for it for few years. It was included in a the japanese edition of a compilation called Merry Axemas. Impossible to get for me, so I had to search on the net, you know.
Las Vegas Christmas: It´s a funny song. Has a pretty guitar/vocal solo. It remembers me Beatles. I don´t know if it´s a cover, I think not.
Redrooster: You can listening to the live version in Behive live.
Family: It´s cool, with a good bass solo.
Red Rooster and Family are bonus tracks of "Vinyl" and "Girls who can read your mind" singles I think (I don´t remember very well)
Maybe a Leo: Powerful cover.
Hawking
Beethoven´s 5th
Barbie bang your head: I don´t know if it´s a cover, but I can say you the guitar solo is specially great.
I understand completely: It´s pure Paul´s crazyness
Somewhere over the rainbow
Heart full of soul
The Madrid Clinic is beautiful. I didn´t know Paul´s music since I watch that performance. I´m a Paul´s fan since then.
I imagine there will be people who knows much more about these songs.
Cheers
