I currently own a Laney LC30-II and soon I hope to get a GH100L but does anybody know where I can find any Laney 2x12" cabs? I can't find them anywhere.

Thanx

LOL, man you just missed 'em.

Hey, what do you mean? I just missed them?

The day before you posted, Fuzzhead was selling two Laney 2x12 cabinets on these boards for $100 EACH.

You were just a day late on a killer deal.

No way man, well I need them to be in the UK anyway otherwise shipping would be really expensive I would imagine!

Does anyone know where I can find a VC50 or GS212PE?

Thankyou

Paul

Been using Genz-Benz 212 G-Flex lately.I find it better than my vintage Marshall 4x12!.The Genz is one of the best 2x12 i have tried.Loads of bottom.

hm... it seems like im starting to really hate laneys

I started out with a Laney AOR 100 which i returned the same day cause it sounded like a harsh trebly mess.. and i couldnt be bothered to find out if it was actually the amp or something wrong.

Last month i got a Laney GH100L which has been voodoo modded.. and i would be lying if i said i got a tone i liked from it. Josh helped me out with some setting which made it a "TAD" better.

It seems like its impossble to get a smooth lead tone out of theses. Like i know laneys are bright.. but how mine sounds its crazy. Treble and Pres on 1 sounds like there on 10. Like when i try to do a pinch harmonic.. it sounds likea burst of treble. Nothing pleasing to the ears at all.

I changed the preamp tubes last week and didnt make a whole lot of a diffrence. The poweramp tubes may need changing but i wont change them untill im 100% sure that it will help warm this amp alot. I dont feel like wasting anymore money.

Will new poweramp tubes help?

p.s i did email voodooamps with the serial number and they said that "it shouldnt sound harsh at all, thats not what they're about" and they want me to send them it ...

You probably just dont like laney tone.

Exactly what i was thinking. I went back to Laneys from using Mesa to get rid of that bright, brittle sound.

If they think the Laneys are bright, wait till they plug into a Recto. My god, the Rectifier sound is so bright it strips the wallpaper off the walls

has anyone tried out the VC-15 110?

if so how much gain does it have?

I'm playing a 2x12 Mesa Roadster and it's not very tight on the bottom end unless it's cranked which isn't very often. can't get articulated palm muting, chugga chuggga type sounds very well (without a boost)

to be completely honest I don't think I'm a mesa guy like I thought I was when I bought this amp, so I'm selling it and getting something less complicated. VC-15 or VC-30 or Orange Rocker 30, sound like viable options for my as the Roadster was a PITA to lugg around all the time (nearly 100lbs.)

might look at the GH100L but it might be overkill for my current needs
(mad practicing and home recording)

any suggestions?

I hate Orange amps!

They sound horrible to me!

The VC15 is awesome!

It doesn't have much gain, but it's amazing when you run it through a distortion pedal!

At the PG clinic i went to, Paul played "Bliss" through a VC-15 as he was demonstrating it for Laney!

It sounded awesome!

VC30's are great too, you have some cool speaker option with it too.

Paul now uses the VC30 as a practice amp!

Good Luck!

Paul

reading the reviews specs etc..

sounds like the VC-15 is a little more versatile
maybe the difference in tubes or a better gain stage

anyone?

Hey everyone quick question. Everytime I turn on my Laney, it does this "whistling" sound that will only stop when I turn it off, then turn it on again after 30 seconds (prior to the start of whistling).

Is this normal? Or do I get it to a store to have it checked?

Sound like a microphonic preamp tube.

Alot of the wierd things that amps do, strange noises, malfunctions, can be blamed on bad tubes. Just replace the bad one, and it should be healthy again.

If you want to pinpoint the problematic one, then get a plastic pen or pencil, turn on the amp and turn on the standby, so that you can hear the guitar.

Now, with the volume rolled all the way up on the guitar, mute the strings with your fingers as best as you can, and turn the amp up a little bit.

Give each tube a gentle tap or two with the pen. You should be able to hear the tap slightly with normal tubes, but the microphonic tube may have a significantly louder tap than the others. The loud one should be your microphonic tube.
