Who is the fastest? Forget melody, songwriting, and all that stuff. I'm thinkin Francesco Fareri, Michael Angelo maybe. I'm not too familiar with many underground "shredders" I guess you could say I'm mainstream when it comes to this. (Yngwie, Joe Stump, Paul) Just curious, I'm not actually interested in playing like that. To a certain extent, it's fun, but I was watching Francesco Fareris vid on his website, and it's pure wanking, even the "songs"

After listening to francesco fareri and rusty cooley... I think rusty cooley probly has the fastest cleanest sound.... but all I've ever seen him do in his videos is massive sweeps, in terms of big loud offensive crazy picking licks with maybe a few hammer ons, not to the point where the whole thing is just a sweeped arpeggio, I still think Paul Gilbert has played the fastest I have ever heard, take Paul's Solo from Live Extreme Volume I, the string skipping is freaking amazing, I have never seen that before, and that part from about 1:25.. sweeps may SOUND faster, but I really think Paul Gilbert is the fastest because his fingers move the fastest :D

oh and on a side note, he's not really the fastest of the players i have seen, but I think Gus G. of Firewind / Dreamevil / Nightrage, deserves mention, not only because he's quite fast and was one of the first mega-shred style guitarists I started listening to.. but also because I don't see his name mentioned very often around here, and I think alot of people who enjoy Paul Gilbert would also enjoy Gus G's work. I really like his solo style, has an angry/violent and destructive feeling to it but is still played with extreme care and finesse of course. and don't forget the speed, while it may not be the speediest, it is definitely up there.

I think I'd have to say the fastest player is Francesco Fareri, the most creative player is Micheal Angelo Baito, and the most tasteful would be Steve Vai.

When it comes to pure wanking, you can't forget Mr. Impelliteri. I've said it before & I'll say it again, it's like watching someone type. Long live the machines.

DAMMNNNNNNN WHYY!!!! I'm sure that most of the people here can play as fast as this ''Non-clean-2-strokes-and-a-half-alternate-picking-out-and-of-the-key-shredder''....

About speed now.... ahm... Mike Romeo plays damn fast but I wonder I ever heard something faster than the acoustic sequences from ''I understand completly'' by PG...? Can't imagine how it sounds if he plays this on an electric guitar... (I mean, with his regular tone)...

I have to say, I don't think so. I'm not a fan of pure speed but...I don't think Paul is the sickest picker by any means, he's my fav cuz his songwriting is AMAZING.

Thats FAST.

Dont get me wrong, Paul is my favorite, but I completely disagree with that!

Yeah Josh, that seems crazy fast. Right now, I'd say Rusty is the fastest guy I've heard.

That's not saying much... I normally dont go looking for fast guitar players.

Haha, me either. I do respect Cooley, cuz I would never practice to get to that level, it's just scary.

I would have to say Michael Angelo. That guy is a monster with speed, but it's not really music. He does some weird tricks too that are really useless.

Paul Gilbert is SUPAR good at picking though. He's the master of alternate picking! :D
