Post bargain guitars...
I really need a new guitar...for under £300 (around $380). I want something good quality that suits my style (shred, metal, lead). I want the action to be as low as possible. The tone I'm not so worried about, as I seem to be able to shape that well enough using my amp and effects (compression, distortion, eq etc.). Ideally I would be more concerned about this, but for under £300 this is one of the things I'd rather cut back on. I want 24 frets or more...and I prefer the look of the Ibanez RG's to gibson/strat/les paul styles. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Just so ya know... £300 is more like $540. Infact, at this point in time, it IS $540.760 :P

And I've offered you that Kramer for £200 already ;)

This has been refered to as the poor mans Jem.

I played it at the store and the action was excellent, and with some fine tuning it could be even better . Only gribe about it was the floating trem ( I dont use em)

welcome back total. U were gone for a lil' while. id recomend a lower end ibanez or maybe an ESP pricewise.

But if you want to save up a little more id go for a hammer or a jackson.

Hey I have that. And yeah, I guess you're right. I wanted to get the a Jem, but it'd take years till I could afford one, so instead I bought the RG350. Har Har! :o

haha, yeah I just found out that $1000 was £554, which made me instantly think of this post...so I came back to edit it, only to find you'd corrected me already

I have thought of that as its about the best Ibanez I can afford, but I tried out a few RG's not so long ago, cant remember exactly what models they were, but one was £300, and one was £600. The fretboard on the cheaper one felt much rougher and gave the whole gutiar a cheap feel...although they both sounded great and had similar action...I couldnt settle for the cheaper one after playing the more expensive one, but I couldn't afford the more expensive one.

ty kerplunk, I feel a posting spree coming along soon.. 8)

There was an even more Jem-like RG at one point ;)

A limited edition RG1550GX came with gold hardware...

I'd definitely suggest the Ibanez RG350DX.

It's a great looking guitar, doesnt look cheap at all. If you dont like the sounds, you can switch the pickups for some DiMarzios! That's what I would do!

very strongly considering it now...but I prefer the look of the 1570, and I really dislike those shark tooth inlays, they seem tacky.

look for a second hand maverick F1.

or even better, a second hand korean wolfgang.

imo both are better than the lower range ibanez's

do

trust me, get a japanese Ibanez.. they are leagues better than the korean ones.

the trems are much higher quality too, as are the general construction.

i think the 1570 has the prestige neck as well.

have you checked out www.musiciansfriend.com also?

they usually have good deals too.

i think theres a schecter with a real floyd on it for about $500

i think the pups are duncan designed on that. not as good as real duncans or real dimarzios but leagues better than the majority of stock pups

or this

Image

usa carvin, real floyd.

[quote=www.chrisguitars.com]13. Carvin DC-127C, super USA Carvin with pro features at an import price. Features neck-thru construction, genuine Floyd Rose tremolo, Sperzel locking tuners, 3-way selector with coil splitter for each pickup. Has a few minor finish flaws but has seen very little actual playing time and is in overall nice shape. Logo is non-original but is a pro job with raised gold paint and serves to make this a unique piece. Pickup rings changed to chrome, but I can switch to black if desired. Priced less than ½ of new at $399 with Carvin gigbag.

second hand..

I'd recommend the Ibanez RG350DX (White), or the Ibanez RG370DX (Black). And they're right, it is the poor man's JEM! :D

thanks for the suggestions, I think i'm gonna go for the 1570. I dont know if I can trust a make Ive never played before. I can't actually try out any gutiars I would want as the stores here don't sell ibanez and have a very limited selection.

You're gonna buy a guitar you've never played???

For the sake of your hardearned, go find one even if its a bit of a drive..

Ibanez wizard necks are extremely skinny and a bit of an aquired taste. I have an old 570, the guitar sounds alright with the duncan i stuck in it (got it mainly for trem abuse) but the neck is like paper  now i'm getting a new one made to a larger profile...

agh, broke again. 8)
