Post A Question of Tubes
Hey all, I was curious as to what 6L6/5881 tubes you all are utilizing in your amps.

I picked up a Peavey XXX and I was thinking of staying with the 6L6/5881.

While I run my both my Laney VH100R and TT50 with JJ E34Ls, but I was looking for a different flavor tube.

So everyone, what are your favorite 6L6/5881 tubes?

Thanks in advance for any replies,

Derek

I have a peavey xxx and have always used jj's. el34 not e34l as those are harmful to the xxx.

There are Basically three sounds you can get out of an amp: The 6L6/5881, The EL34 and Solid State sound(s). Everyone who says they love the "Marshall Sound" Is saying they love the sound of EL34 all the guys that playing 'Nu-Metal' and go for the huge bottom end (Mesa/Boogie sound) use 6L6/5881. Everything else is Solid State. I guess it all comes down to tase. Try some things out first and see what sounds good to you, man. If you are going to change your tubes always remember to Re-Bias your amp, otherwise you can seriously mess it up.

re-bias means to change the stage the amp was in when you are going to change the tubes. For example: If you have an amp with 6L6 and you want to change them to EL34, you would have to re-bias your amp because it is not set to be used with EL34s.

I have Sovtek 6l6's in my Mesa, and I enjoy the huge low end it has. With Mesa as long as you put in a perfectly matched pair of tubes in it, it doesn't need rebiased. Pretty rockin'!
