Post what to do about...
metal fans that are closed minded to everything other than "headbanging" music.

im tired of being around people who worship kirk hammett and bug the hell out of me to play some metallica. metallica gets so old. but whenever i play some speed-technical stuff that i think came from paul gilbert as an influence, they dont even care? what do i do? I know im a great player, but some people dont care because im not living off of my wah pedal like those players. its pretty frustrating.

I think the music industry is messed up SO MUCH these days..

Its more about image than it is the music (Not the cacophony song, I wish it was)..

You shouldent have to prove yourself to anyone, as long as your creative it doesent matter how fast you play. Also dont whore out your speed, music today has become more melody loving then technical appreciation. I revere Jason Becker as a genius of not only technical ability but how well he could compose his stuff.

And if it comes down to it, tell them your playing unrealised Kirk Hammet music, and when they wow you tell them the truth

You sound a little close-minded, too, you know.

When you play high-speed technical riffs, theres a reason people might not care. People have more "sophisticated" tastes now, and arent so devoted to speedy scales and exercises.

That being said, I love fast music, as long as it has a good melody!

Also, (just in case) if you classify yourself as a great player because you can play fast, then you might want to re-examine yourself. Great playing doesnt come from speed.

I think Kirk Hammet was good because he came up with some very nice (and memorable) melodies with James Hetfield back in "the day." I think his technical abilties were over-rated, but his melodies and sense of music was enough to merit him as being a good guitar player.

dont get the wrong impression of me, forgive me. I do spend more time studying scales, modes, and trying to get into every little nook and cranny of music theory as well. so as i said, i do explore and experiment with many melodic ideas and stuff that i think are pretty fun to hear as well as play.

People like what they like. Nothing you do will change that. It's good to expose people to more technical shit if that's what you love, but only a small percentage of people are going to love it like you do.

As cheesy as it sounds you gotta just play what you feel inside. Play from the heart always and don't care what anyone else thinks.

most of the people i listen to i respect as a person, as opposed to just liking they're music. That is my ultimate goal in music, gain respect as a person and player. I want people to like anything i play and see the good in it no matter what style it may be. I played in a hardcore metal band, screaming and all, for a while. Now i play in a....uhhh....hrm....hard to describe. But it aint metal.
