So, you don't even see a SLIGHT Vai-inspiration in Petrucci?

No, more Al Di Meola, Steve Morse, Alex Lifeson (Petrucci's favorite album is Hemispheres - a man with good taste), a good dose of metal riffers in general, oh and WWE

Did I mention I am seeing Rush on 6 dates of their upcoming second leg tour - three dates in Florida and then Washington, Charlotte and Atlanta (for which I have a second row seat). I am also seeing Dream Theater (Progressive Nation tour) on three dates (Atlanta and 2 in Florida) and Satriani/PG in London, UK.

I follow tours therefore I am. 8)

Definitely no Vai or Satriani (I really find them dull and uninspiring). There is something about Vai's music in particular that irritates the hell out of me.

Dude how can you dig Zappa and not like Vai???

I respect what Vai does and it is all very clever and he is an incredible musician. However, I just find his post Zappa, flexible stuff repetitive and uninspiring. I dunno - I just don't like his melodies - they have a depressing quality to them. I think both Vai and Satriani overuse the whammy bar stuff which for me has been done to death. One of the reasons I like PG, is that he is so inventive and has a wealth of fantastic musical ideas without relying on the old, tried and tested methods. He is constantly striving and learning new stuuf/approaches, which is really inspiring.

 Vai "uninspiring"??? BLASPHEMY!!!

Dude have you heard Vai's "Real Illusions" or "Sound Theories"??? Or better yet check out the Sound Theories DVD...
