No kidding.
Truthfully, if you're looking for ease of use and ease of learning, hit up Cakewalk Sonar. It's a breeze, and the finished product is pretty good.
For roughly $3000-$5000 you can get set up in a mid level Pro Tools envoironment, and that shit rocks. There's nothing you can't do with it...downside is the learning curve to learn the software and how the various human interfaces (depending on what you spend) work. However...we're coming to a point in the industry now where if a working guitarist doesn't at least grasp a small portion of the introductory elements to Protools, they're really limiting themselves.

I use Cakewalk Guitar Tracks 2. It's pretty easy once you get started. If you already have ANY recording/multitracking experience, then it'll be a breeze.

n-track studio is easy and inexpensive shareware. You can download it and try it for free for a while.

Personally I use Cubasis which rocks on a decent spec PC. If you intend to get into Pro Tools then you can download an older version for free(Pro Tools Free) from DigiDesign's website.

What you're talking about is Protools LE. It's a "light" version that flat out sucks. Don't ruin your first impression of Protools with it, people.

I wouldn't say it sucks, but yeah it does have limited functionality. It reminds me of Pro Tools 3 which I used to work with (but its probably even more cut down). As an intro to Pro Tools its decent enough to give you an idea what its like and to get the hang of it while you save up for a 'pro' system.
If anyone's interested you can download it here:

if you have a meaty PC get cubase vst 5.0, its on kazzaa right now. Skip all the other budget half assed software and start getting to grips with it. The quality blew all my other recordings on cubase adudio light away. Loads of FX to play with and great sounding virtual instruments.

There is a free version a ProTools (but you still have to pay $10 shipping). It's not as hard to use as everyone says it is. Just go to www.digidesign.com. I have cakewalk, however, I dont like it too much.
