Post Dimarzio question
Hi,

Im looking to re-fit my Jackson with a new bridge P/U and im considering a PAF Pro or Evolution. (Im getting interested in Duncan's as well, but at the moment i would prefer DM).

Does anyone know who does the best prices on pickups in the UK? If i order from musiciansfriend.com they will only be 36 quid each! ($59.99). Of course i will have to pay shipping and tax but it would still be cheaper than the 70quid here in the UK.

Alternatively if any of you guys are selling one....

The only problem is i want one in PINK 8)

Mark

Hi,

Thanks Eddie. I checked him out and he cannot ship DiMarzio outside the US. I guess DM are price fixing in different countries.

Ive seen a pink PAF Pro on evil bay ending in 5 days. The only problem is it look old and the pink is faded. Thats not a big deal but if i get an old one and its microphonic its no use to anyone :?

I might go with musiciansfriend.

Thanks again for the link,

Mark

go with dimarzio.with seymore duncans you are actually paying more for the name.....my dimarzio pick-ups of choice:paf pro=neck.....tone zone=bridge.i have used SD's before...not really impressed....this statement of course is my opinion.(official disclaimer statement)

Love the Tone Zone in bridge, not crazy about the PAF Pro in neck though. Bit too much mid tone for my taste. Personally I'd go with an Air Norton in neck. Depends what kind of tone you want. PAF Pro - Mids, Air Norton - Treble

i was also kicking around the idea of putting a dimarzio FRED in the neck position........comments?.....of course using the tone zone in the bridge position.

I always figured the FRED to be a bridge pickup, with its enriched harmonics and such. Never heard it in neck before.

Hi,

Thanks for the input. I have a TZ in my RG so im after something a little different. I think an Evolution might be too hot and tebly (word??) with my Mesa so im going for a PAF Pro. Im going to buy a new one.

Apparently old ones (as found on ebay) can get microphonic.

I have a Fred in the neck slot of my ESP/LTD Viper and think its great. Nice full sounding chords with rich harmonics. I have a Evolution in the bridge and it is a monster.
I used a Paf-Pro in my main guitar for 10years and think its one of the best pick ups made! I would not worry about them getting microphonic...the PAF-Pro came out in 91-92 as a standard release(as in not custom order),before that you could only get them on JEMs etc.) and DiMarzio are about the best at waxing pick ups and have been doing it all along.

But Geno's pal Shred gets better tone, and he uses Duncans. Tighter tone than Dims.

IMO.

I don't like Larry's house. Too fuzzy.

just to let you guys know:

jason becker used duncans
paul gilbert used duncans(before dimarzio warped his fragile little mind  )
rusty cooley used duncans(before EMG's)
satch used duncans(as well as dimarzios)

so duncans aren't that bad, but like i said:

CUSTOM ALL THE WAY!!!!
becker used it, rusty used it, and i think paul did at one time.
