Guthrie has been synonymous with Suhr over the years so this news of his sudden move to Charvel is quite a shocker, it's sort of like if Vai, Satch, or Gilbert jumped ship from Ibanez. I know he's always sung very high praises for Suhr guitars so my guess is that Chravel must have really offered him a one hell of a sweet deal.

Yeah it's been news. I can't believe people are calling Guthrie a sell-out.

Great news, guys. There's a difference between selling out and selling!

I think the same it's the same with Paul and Laney. I wonder what all the Guthrie fan boys are feeling now :P They're probably like oh noes his skill is not in teh suhr

Well, let's hope it's NOT like Paul leaving Laney... since everything he did from them on is "meh" compared to his Laney era. :)

I'm pretty sure Guthrie could wrap an old shoelace around a pogo stick, plug it into a tree and still sound amazing ;)

Well it's not like Charvel sucks. Ever since they got bought out by Fender Charvel's quality has returned to the higher standard they were known for back in their glory days of the 1980s. Granted if you compare a factory run Charvel to a Suhr of course the Suhr will win out, but still the Charvels (post-Fender buyout) are really good guitars and Guthrie could certainly use the massive Fender budget to help promote his name out here in America. I don't know how it is across the pond but here Guthrie is not all that known. The last time he played here out in Los Angeles he played at the Baked Potato... a club that is maybe a little over twice the size of your average sized living room.

To be perfectly honest I never heard of Suhr until I heard of Guthrie, and I never heard of Guthrie until some of you guys started posting some of his stuff on here a few years ago (of course I have since become a big fan of his).

Yeah, but then again, I read on Facebook that the aristocrats were playing in Rome at a place that could hadle 150 people. The tickets price 7 euro!

Now, if you do a little Math, that's only 1050 euro per night (they were playing twice in the same venue), if the place is packed. Take away the venue's rent, the actual costs of the band's tour and you will end up with... well, I don't know, but it doesn't sound too charming, specially considering the band consists of 3 master musicians (not very well known among your average radio listening audience, but still).

I think Guthrie is little known, still. He is building his reputation, and part of this is due to the internet (specially Youtube). I don't think it has to do with him playing Suhr for those years.

Exactly my point, now imagine Guthrie with the massive Fender budget, distribution, and promotion machine behind him. Imagine all of the clinics and special appearences he could be doing over here in the U.S. all on Fender's dime. Something that just wouldn't be financially possible with a smaller company like Suhr.

This looks like a deal that could really benefit both parties. Charvel gets some higher street credit among musicians because they now have someone of Guthrie's stature using their guitars, and Guthrie is going to get his name put out there...especially here in the states.

Hope nothing bad has happened behind the scenes at Suhr, that would be a shame.

Here is a new interview with Guthrie, in it he dicusses his gear including his Charvel. BTW he states very clearly that at this point there is no endorsment deal with Charvel. That guitar is a prototype he has been working on with Charvel(Koa body, caramelized maple neck) that he is currently testing out. More details by clicking on the link.
