Post new pickups for my Ibanez 1550
Hello to everybody,
need a little help for finding a valuable substitution for the V8/V7 stock pickups I have in my prestige-Ibanez.
Which pickups would You consider to get for a nice rock/metal sound? I play mainly legato (am not too good at picking) and Satriani/Vai stuff.. The guitar has a maple fretboard and basswood body.
I was thinking about DiMarzio (Liquifire and Super3), was also thinking about the Seymour Duncan (SH1 and SH4) - but I'm
not sure - I would like a pickup that brings out the distinctive sound of the guitar itself, not like active-EMGs that sound in every guitar the same (not intended to offend somebody, just a personal observation).
Thanx for any help!
Dino

What are you looking for? As in, what are you not satisfied with right now?

Use as many adjective, good or bad, as you can think of.

actually You're right sorry.
I am looking for a good lead tone, not too much bite, that suits my legato style (neck PU). Especially, I don't want the low notes
on the low-e-string not to sound too muddy when playing fast runs and long lasting notes.
For the bridge: just a good humbucker for rock/metal riffing, not too much treble.
In all, I am looking for pickups that don't have too much treble (maple fretboard!), not muddy and reflect the guitar's tone.
(Many pickups sound the same in different guitars because they don't reflect the guitar's voice)...
sorry, I'm italian and don't speak english very well..

You can't go wrong with the usuals.

Either Evolutions for both the neck and PUP (or Breed for both, which has lesser output and is warmer)

or the usual choice of Air Norton (neck) and Tone Zone (bridge). Check out some videos of the people who use them on the DiMarzio website www.dimarzio.com

When I upgraded my Ibanez RG I threw a Tone Zone in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck. I'm very happy with them.
