Post The best progressive metal I've ever written.
http://soundcloud.com/shreddingsheu/slap-metal-demo

Produced and co written with Bali Harko. I'm not much of a metal writer...or a writer by any stretch of the imagination, so I hope you guys like the guitar pyrotechnics.

Please share if you like it. Guitar tones were done with the Axe Fx Ultra, Drums with Superior Drummer 2.0, guitar used was my Carvin DC400 in drop C.

Excellent playing (as expected). Image

I have high hopes for you, so if I were a mod I would have re-titled your thread to "The best progressive metal I've ever written... so far!"

Brian, can you point a sloppy note you played during that video? I couldn't notice anything.

If you think that then you should probably get a more up to date dictionary. :D

That's crazy as hell man. My brain certainly don't think like that, what bands do you listen to like this? I've never really been too much aware of this side of guitaring but listening to Andy James a lot has really brought it to my attention. This is nuts, I play in 4/4, I'm not quite sure you know how to. ;)

Yeah, 4/4 is a BIG no-no in djent. Didn't you know that?

But the whole bit from after the slappy intro to the chugga bit is in 4/4 :P

+1. For the most part. And I just tend to call it progressive/tech metal, like Blotted Science or something. Rich called it "djent" which you'll find a lot of people nowadays calling this "genre". Myself, I don't like to use that word because of the negative connotations it has...I would never call Meshuggah a "djent" band.

Here are some bands you might like. Periphery is the big one, and they have instrumental versions of their tunes in case you don't like their vocals.

Born of Osiris - Recreate. This song is bad ass

Veil of Maya is sweet

Sikth are a big influence, though their vocals are very hard to get into. This is where my slappy came from

I think you already know my love for this track :P So awesome!

Another band that's this kinda style is The Safety Fire, who have a new album out later this month (really can't wait!).

Brian the reason I know this is because I actually tried to break that section down into pieces (I was really amazed with it even with the initial video, also I was bored). I sincerely mean this, but you got the formula down! All your songs (even the ones you released before) flow smoothly even when there are "many things" happening. Most of the bands I've listened to, including Periphery, tend to jump from one bit to one bit in a way that sort of confuses me (or, to me at least, is like maaaan. what. you were doing nicely on that one part). I'm sure they really mean to do that, but I like your style better because it flows more and I "understand" it. Also it's not complicated for the sake of being complicated, I don't know if you get that. It's great! Moar!

Dude, this is absolutely incredible in every way. I don't even usually like this kind of music but this is extremely badass.

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but are you trying to make a living playing music? If so, I think you have a really good shot because you can actually write songs and melody. What other projects are you involved in? I'd love to check them out.

Wow, this is so cool. I've really been into Periphery lately, so this was definitely the right time for me to check this out. Really good job :)

Well, I was supposed to have a project with one of my friends but that never happened. We were supposed to put these on an EP and sell it, which is why I held onto it for so long without releasing it. I don't really play much metal these days, I play a lot more fusion/jazz.

So I guess I was screwed in the "trying to make a living playing guitar" anyway and just made it worse for myself!
