Post Re: Ibanez Les Paul
Oh, I forgot to mention: Paul replied to an e-mail I sent him on the subject.

Quote:
The olive green one is a PF300. It's not exactly a Les Paul shape, but obviously it's close. It has a set-neck which is really nice. The most unusual thing about it is the body which is slightly hollow. This is nice, because it makes it lighter (and Les Pauls can be really heavy.) I had mine refretted and put DiMarzio Air Classics in it.

I've got several Ibanez Les Paul copies. They all have bolt-on necks, but they still sound pretty good. My favorite is the sunburst that I'm playing on "Jackhammer" in the Spaceship One DVD. That one also is slightly hollow, and just has great tone.

One of the most unusual ones is a "Deluxe 59'er" that has a transparent creme finish and a maple neck and fingerboard. I kept the original pickups in that one because they sound good and look cool. You can see my uncle, Jimi holding that one on the cover photos of "Raw Blues Power."

I found all of these on ebay. If you decide to look for a "PF" model, I really suggest the PF300 or PF400 (3-pickup version) because they have set-necks. The PF-200s have bolt-on necks.

Thank you,

Paul

What a nice guy!

Thank you, Paul, again!

Completely clean. Gives you an idea how fucking nice his guitar is set up plus the strength of his fingers.

Here are a few pictures that I took of Pauls sunburst one. These are from the Whittier Amazing Journey show in 2006. He only played it for a song or 2 before he broke a string which can be seen in the second picture. Then he switched to an Ibanez copy of a white 3 pickup SG custom for the rest of the show except the last song where he played a cheap epi SG which he smashed on stage.

I've got a lot of pics from the Amazing Journey gig in Chicago, and it's that same guitar.

But I am not sure if that Les Paul copy is the same one he played Jackhammer with. He said he has several Les Paul copies (and actually, I wrote on my e-mail about that one he used to the Amazing Journey, and he told me about the one from the Space Ship Live DVD... so it might be a different one... who knows...)

BUMP

Is it just me, or those guitars are getting more and more expensive?

There's not a single Les Paul copy or PF model that went for less than 700 bucks!

There are several brands that are basically rebranded Ibanez guitars. CSL made some, as did Antoria (I think), so they might be worth looking out for.

It's not just you. A couple of years back you could buy an old 550 for $200-$250 in good condition (sometimes even less). And now? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Ibanez-RG5 ... 20bc0d2f3f And this isn't even the most expensive one on ebay right now.

I guess guitar prices in general are getting higher.

I remember seing Gibson SG's for about $400 back in 2005. Right now, you'll only find Epiphones at that price.

Too expensive?

What do you guys think?

It's one of the best looking LP copies I've seen around! It sure doesn't look like it's 30 + years old!

Post Re: Ibanez Les Paul
I does seem a little high at that price.
If it were in mint condition maybe $700 or $750 but this one has lots of dings and dents and there appears to be a couple of holes in the side (bass side) of the body. The neck also doesn't seem to fit into the pocket very well which is pretty odd. From the pics it looks like there's a 1/8" gap between the body and the heel of the neck.

I love that it's all original, no visible fret wear, and it looks sweet but on the close-up pics you can start seeing flaws. $800 sounds like too much.
