Post Pre show warm up?
hey guys? I was wondering what you guys do for a quick warm up before a show? When I play, alot of the songs have technical parts and I do not have time to spend an hour getting it together. What you guys do for this problem? I wanna be able to play loose and to the best of my ability during the show.

I jump around a bit and try to shake my arms real loose. I also rub my arms and stretch my wrists around a bit. If possible, i go through some very basic chromatic scales just before hitting the stage.

Not much.

Warm up lefty hand with some run of the mill legato licks. That's about it.

I try to play REAL stuff before a show. Just noodling with some parts of songs that make my fingers feel good. Hurry Up is fantastic.. both the main theme and the nice sounding melody part. Mostly things that aren't particularly fast, but get your fingers moving, and aren't so mundane. One thing I love to do is the melody of Peaches En Regalia by Frank Zappa:

I love the melody plus just listen and pay attention to the timing and different note groupings.

Another warm up thing I've been doing something is a nice clean part I picked out of one of my own songs.. I'm planning to add more pinky notes into it though.

So my suggestion.. play something fun that feels good. Because music is fun and feels good.. that's what it's all about.

And i'll almost always play before a gig.

Oh yeah and like everyone mentioned already... STRETCH!! If you're on stage and ready to play Scarified... STRETCH. It feels good and I don't think it makes you look lame or anything.
