Post Getting together with songwriters of a different style?
Hey, I've been looking to get into a band for quite song time and I've found some people who are looking for a lead guitarist, which is where I hopefully come in. The thing is they're style is different from what I'm used to playing guitar over, it's soft rock/folk stuff and I'm more of a hard rock and metal guy, not that I don't like anything else but that's just where my main comfort zone is, where I can write music and feel at home.
So my question is does anyone have any suggestions about how to approach this sort of thing, should I just learn their songs and go for it, should I come up with my own parts to their songs or should I just wing it? I haven't replied to them about any sort of audition as of yet but I think I'll just let them know I'm interested and will take some time to take a serious listen to their songs for a while, which might give me enough time to figure out the guitar parts and how to approach this sort of thing.

By the way here's some links to their stuff:
