Post From the remains of an abused Grabber
Few months ago, picked up a beat-to-shit Gibson Grabber for 5 bucks at a flea market. This thing was BAD. Lets make a list, shall we?

1. Nothing but crackles when plugged up. Horrendously botched rewiring job.

2. Back of the neck had some DEEP dings and scratches.

3. Pickguard was replaced by a piece of cardboard. REALLY. This was probably because.....

4. The Gibson Grabber's neat feature was its single humbucking pickup mounted on a kind of track, so it was able to be slid closer to the bridge or neck. Not terribly useful but COOL AS HELL. I guess this guy said screw that, because the pickup was screwed right through the body. Not into. THROUGH.

5. Grabbers had a thin body, so the screws used to mount the pickup stuck out about 1/2 inch through the back. It was awful.

6. After removing the pickguard, I found two fat ass picks holding the pickup up. Ugh.

7. Water damage and rotting wood all along the inside routing. Good god.

8. The only thing right about this thing, the added Badass II bridge, was mounted with 2 screws.

So I took her apart and sanded the shit out of the neck (which has a sweet Flying V type headstock).

I had had a body I carved from liptus wood, which is comparable to mahogony in tone (it is used in some companies as a "green" replacement to mahogony). The stuff is like a brick. The body itself weighed a little over 25 pounds before the routing and sex holes.

Bought some new drill bits (and a half) and went to town.

Had to *somewhat* rewind the pickup, as the leads were bad, and added a tasty Carvin pickup at the bridge.

Sounds beastly! The neck pup, I swear, sounds just like an upright! The bridge Carvin is clear as a bell, and very articulate.

I might put up some audio samples, but what do you guys think? I just sorta winged it on the fancy holes. I swear, I killed two sets of drill bits making them. Liptus is TOUGH.

That looks like one tamed beast indeed. No pictures of what it looked like in the initial condition?

I know I took some pictures of that old mess, but I can't figure out where they went.
