 pick ups
Hey guys, i'm gonna get new pickups for my pgm300 cause the paf pros just aren't doing it for me. i already got a duncan distortion in the bridge but i'm not liking it too much, its a little bit harsh when it comes to doing leads but does rhythm pretty well.
I'm pretty set on getting a set of dimarzios i just don't know which ones. And i know they have the return policy but i want to be pretty sure before i get anything so i don't have to go through the process of replacing the pickups a million times.
That being said, for the bridge i want something smooth for leads that can still do some good heavy rhythms that don't get muddy. and for the neck i would like something liquid sounding that flows real smooth out the amp.
Anyone have any good suggestions?

Hmmm what don't you like about the PAF Pros?
You might also want to dig in www.dimarzioforum.com for more pickup info... I found tons of useful information from there.

Sounds like you're looking for PAF Pros.

the paf pros are good, but i want something a little more aggressive and better for metal rhythm. Don't get me wrong, they are great over-all pickups but i want something thats a little bit more metal oriented but not so much that i can't so anything else with my guitar.

Hmm so a higher output bridge pickup? A Tonezone perhaps?
And a clearer neck pickup? Have you considered Humbucker from Hell or Air Classics?
Note: I haven't tried any of these, but these are my pickup choices for my RG which I'm going to change pickups soon.

Yeah, it does sound like a ToneZone would fit in pretty well. The only things that could drive you away from em are their less-than-stellar coil tapped properties and that distinct midrange bump. But its an incredible pickup, in case you've never tried one.

i've never trued the tone zone myself but the guitarist in my friends band just got one put in and he said the kids guitar sounds a million times better.
I'm kind of considering the Bareknuckle pickups because i have not seen a review that gave them below a 9 out of 10 for sound, and most give 10.
Have any of you tried these because if they are as good as people say, then its definitely worth the extra bit of cash they cost

So far the Tone Zone is my favourite pickup EVER. I even love it in the neck.

Hmm the tone zone is starting to sound pretty good, half price of a bareknuckle and a bareknuckle can't be twice as good . And i would assume that if i get a tone zone in the bridge, getting one in the neck would overpower the bridge, so what would be a sweet combo for it?

Air Norton in the neck
Personally i prefer the Paf Pro to the Tone Zone

in a basswood guitar with 24 frets its really hard to beat the tone zone and air norton combo - they are pure rock tone..
I have them in stock in white too
mail me if you want them, they are £147.99 for the pair in white.

Mine too. I have tone zones in my PGM301 - both neck and bridge position.

Doesn't that make the neck pickup louder than the bridge?

No, they balance well together. What I do is lower my neck pickup a bit more than the bridge, more so on the bass side. Tone zone is a little muddy in the neck position if you have it too high (at least in my setup).

oh sounds interesting, i might give that a try and use the dimarzio 30 day guarantee if i don't like it cause i think paul used the tone zone in the neck of some guitar and i know michael romeo used it in the neck and he has a killer neck sound

Paul used double TZ combo in PGM 800, PGM 10th, PGM 90th and Orange PGM. I'd say that' a pretty good combination =o
