Post Effects Pedals
Ok all, I've got a Peavey Bandit (thats shit) but i can't afford a new amp at the minute, so i was wonderin if anyone new of a really good distortion pedal, that will spice up my Peavey and give me a good "gilbert tone".
I was thinkin along the line's of a Boss pedal or summat. Also does Paul use any such pedals or does he just go into his Laney with his MXR etc?

Nick.

I would just save up for a better amp if I were you. It may take longer, but it'll cost you less money in the long run..

honestly, if you want real gilbert tone, go get a Laney, but i know that's hard to do. for a distortion pedal, i used to use the Boss DS 1, it's a solid box for what it's designed to do, a little harsh sometimes, but it sounds pretty good otherwise.

I don't know about getting a 'Gilbert' tone but I get MY toneby using a Mesa Boogie DC5, and then slamming an Ibanez Tube Screamer into it to boost the mids when I take a solo. Works for me!!

for Insane Heavy Metal distortion I reccomend either the BOSS DS-1 (orange box) or an ORIGINAL Electro Harmonix Bigg Muff (the reissue ones are CRAP)...X

It all depends how your going to use it... If you're running into a distorted tube amp and want a lead boost/more gain for shredding then an overdrive is the way to go.

Ibanez Tubescreamers affect the tone the least, the Boss Superoverdrive is favoured by Zakk Wylde and is very good too... Maybe a little more processed sounding... If your looking for lots of gain and midrange in an overdrive check out the YJM 308 by DOD its pretty cheap at americanmusical.com that's where I got mine...

If you're going into a clean amp grab a good distortion pedal or better yet a rack mountable preamp...

Harmony central has all sorts of interesting reviews
