Post Ibanez AS73 Semihollow
Anyone else own this guitar? I thought I'd pick one up to try out a semi-hollow (and hey, the brown sunburst model kind of looks like Paul's vintage artcore ;) ).

I love this guitar! It feels like the semihollow resonance changes the way pick attack feels on the strings. Does anyone know what strings this guitar comes with stock? I know they're d'addarios, they look and feel like they're probably 10s rather than the 9s most Ibanez guitars come with, though I'd almost be willing to believe they were 11s if someone told me they were.

in the last yr i purchased an as120 and an as83, and i agree with you, they are amazing amazing guitars, i never thought you could really get a good rock sound out of them but they are amazing... its like having a toyota prius with a ferrari engine, total sleeper... As far as the strings go i believe they are 11's, i know one of mine came with 11's and some extra sets of strings and i was told thats what came on the guitar.

You figure 11s? It's surprising to me because although the 4,5,6th strings look and feel thick, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd strings don't really feel or look that thick to be 11s. They also bend really easily.

I wanted to get an AS93 because I really wanted the rectangle fret markers and the transparent finish on the flamed maple top (I just wish it was a brown sunburst finish instead of blue, though blue is kind of sexy in its own way), but they didn't have it in stock and I wasn't willing to spend that kind of money on a guitar I've never touched, especially when this is my first hollowbody and I had no idea what to expect.

I almost think the strings on the 73 might be hybrid gauge. Anyone else have any guesses?

they just had a as93 on ebay for a buy it now of 375, and supposedly mint condition, i almost bought it. I based my answer on the guitars i received and the info i was given. I typically use 10s and these seemed a bit thicker

That guitar is real good. I had one before. Sold it though cause I thought it was lacking in some. I'd get the artcore custom if you really want a keeper :)

That would've been nice to know _before_ I bought this one a week ago ;(

Although the artcore customs are beautiful, I really like both the asethetics and practicality of a double cutaway :P

edit: Nevermind, I see one model in that series DOES have the double cut. The AS103 would be hard to resist if it didn't have such a boring finish.

Now why did you have to show me that? That's exactly what I wanted when I bought my AS73 (rectangle fret markers, flamed maple underneath the brown sunburst finish). Well shit. That guitar is quite a bit pricier though. I wonder if the pickups are any good or if I'd have to get them swapped out.

edit: Oh, I probably didn't see that because they don't show the sunburst finish on the USA or Canada versions of their website, nor do they list the string gauge and type used, nor is the AS73 even listed at ALL in the Japan region, and the available finishes on the 93 are different too. I hate how Ibanez's website is so inconsistant by region like that.

I have one. I bought it past year, before seeing Paul playing his hollow body and that made me so happy!!!

It came with 0.10 and I still have that gauge. I love it though I´m not very demanding with my guitars, but at its price it´s a good guitar for me. I try to play all kind of music with it

Yes I know how much my playing sucks but I wanted to show how many possibilities this guitar has. For me, as a non professional guitar player it´s a nice axe :)

Yeah it's definately a great guitar. I might try to lower the action a tiny bit, hopefully without adding any fret buzz that would ruin the amazing clean sound of the guitar. One of the reasons I love it is it sounds great with a thinner pick (like all acoustics, I have no idea why that is) so I can use a .5mm on it and it sounds great for everything, even shred, though that takes a little practice to get use to.
