Post Delay pedals (recommendations needed!)
Hey guys,

I'm looking for a good quality delay pedal, but so far I don't know which one to take.

My requirements:

- Need to cover the basic delays you could use over 'smooth' leads with proper quality and low noise (I heard that the Boss DD7 has a lot of noise?)
- I really want to have a looper included, since it will help me to practice over chord changes on the spot
- Tap tempo would be great
- Paul's The Echo Song kind of delay
- My maximum budget is around 200 euro's (which is around 270 dollars)

Considering my requirements, do you guys know of any great delay pedals I should really check out? Thanks in advance. :D

Try the new Vox Time Machine. I played one in the shop and was really impressed. Its a vintage analogue pedal and modern digital delay in one. Really nice.

I tried that green line 6 thing with about 4 stomp buttons on it - it was totally impressive...
loads of cash though :(

270 should get you most delay pedals you want. I suggest trying them out at guitar center before you decide.

I'd look into
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-DD20-Giga-Delay?sku=151305

Although it's probably a bit more powerful than what people need. You can make crazy sounds with this one Mars Volta style. 8) 8)

23 seconds before playback? That would be an awesome tool for practicing guitar in a manner similar to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpJNUGHxC3M

This delay looks crazy (just for looking...it's about 4-5 times your budget.)

i have a line 6 dl4, an mxr carbon copy, and a line 6 echo park (and previously had a boss dd3 and holds the record for only boss pedal i've seen broken in my life)

the DL4 has the most versatility with 16 delays and an 8 second loop and the ability to hold presets + true bypass and tap tempo

the carbon copy is by far the best sounding one. it does not have tap tempo but it is true bypass

the echo park is decent and cheap (well, i got it for free from line 6) and has tap tempo but it doesnt have true bypass.

seeing as after having the dl4 for a few years and it being out of commission (and ive heard of these pedals not being very reliable [in fact my roommate's dl4 is busted too]) im going to recommend the carbon copy. but you will miss tap tempo!

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

The DD3 is cool, but in that case I can better go for the DD7 right? Since I have the cash for it. I don't know the carbon copy yet, need to check that one out.

I like the Vox Time Machine as well, but it doesn't have a looper. :(

Yeah, I was thinking about the line 6 one, although indeed quite expensive (around 360 euro's)

@Refried Bean, the DD20 is awesome, altough back here in the Netherlands it costs 230 euro's ($313). But I might think about adding 30 euro's if it's worth it. About the Paul Gilbert vid, is he using the DD20 there? Anyone knows what Paul uses? Because the thing he does in the vid is awesome! Unfortunately we don't have Guitar Centre around here. But there are some other stores where I can check them out.

@rsmseries, thanks a lot for your extensive reply! yeah the DL4 sounds really cool, but as mentioned before is quite expensive. The carbon copy sounds interesting, does it have a looper?

Do you guys have experience with the EHX memory man with hazarai? I saw the youtube vid, seems like a cool delay pedal.

Carbon copy all the way. I do enjoy my DD-3 a lot though.

I had the EH Deluxe Memory Man and I loved it to bits. The sound was unreal. The only problem I had with it, besides the price, was the delay length was only just 500ms, which is great for ambience, but its not a versatile delay IMO.

Nah, in the video he's using a "hold" feature on the DD-3 or the upgrade for that. (It's one of the simpler DD models). I'm pretty sure that the DD-20 is able to do that. Don't know for sure, you might have to ask around. I have a friend that has one though, and he makes some really awesome crazy sounds out of it.

I have a DLS EchoTap which I love, it has a standard delay as well as tap tempo, and you can return to your standard preset from the tap mode. It's very musical but not really capable of any really extreme/ over the top sounds. No looping either.

I believe Akai makes a delay pedal with looping capabilities that I have heard good things about.

The Carbon Copy is a great delay pedal, but it doesn't have a lot of the features you're looking for. For the Echo Song, you should really have a digital delay, not an analog delay. The CC also does not have tap tempo. I think what you're looking for is the Hardwire DL-8 Delay/Looper
