'scuse the ignorance but what's a volute?

I'd go for the fret wire they used on the JEM's probably. If Ibanez have already used it for high grade guitars chances are it'll be the same thing on the Fireman.

I'm not sure Azza

Remy kindly sent me this picture and they look nothing like Jumbos, the fret wire actually looks very thin imo (although the dunlops are slightly different)

I'm going to let Jaden decide, he knows best

Well the medium/highest version are probably a good choice then :)

Where did you hear that?

I think it was the Fireman video on the Ibanez website

Wahoo the mystery has been solved!!

Huge thank you to Remy for sending me this message

Hey Ant, I just founs out that they used w/6105 frets in my Fireman! It said so on my COA!

The aim was to make this guitar as close as possible to the original. We now even know the exact fret wire used!

Hey dude I know it's supposed to be as close to the original.. but fret wire can do a lot in terms of how it feels. I'd suggest you try different kinds.. I always used to think jumbo frets were the coolest since they're on pretty much all Ibanez guitars but now I really love the medium frets on my Carvin. I even tried smaller frets and they were just too small.. but some people dig em that way. I also tried extra jumbo which were freakin' monstrous. If you have huge hands they'd be great though.

So yeah I just always thought that fret sizes didn't really matter but if you want it to play the best for YOU maybe you should try out your different options.

Thanks for the post Eric :)

I have two guitars with jumbo frets so I think it's right to try out some medium ones. I know it's not really something I should be 'testing' but I remember paul saying the thinner the frets the more you have to dig in for vibrato.

Sounds good to me :)

I'm all for this project. It's a huge kick in the pants for ibanez.

But at the same time. Make the guitar yours. Next, you'll be custom making his clothes. Next his haircut, then his voice who knows. You get what I'm saying. Copying him will get you nowhere. Practice and get the skills first, then make your own music.

If he wants to make his own Fireman, then so be it. Copying him is fun if that's your thing. You don't have to be original to have fun with a guitar.

Saying that, you might end up looking as uncool as I did the day my friends pointed out I was wearing my GOOMY t-shirt and hoodie at the same time - fail

That's fucking stupid.

But yeah about the fret sizes the smaller frets are just much more comfortable for me to play. I also have a weird fretboard radius which makes my bends and vibrato a breeze. But I know what he means by digging in. I can dig it.

I already have 2 Ibanez RG guitars with thin necks, basswood and humbuckers so that's why I'm keeping the thick neck, single coils, different woods etc

I'm not copying Gilbert ffs, is it so wrong to have someone to aspire to?

I like the design of the fireman, it would have cost me £6k so I'm having a replica built. Shoot me down.

I know you only mean good but you bring it up every time I buy a piece of gear. Please give it a rest...

Yea that's where I started to lose my temper :(

My main reason for liking Paul is not his gear, image or even 'voice'. It's his quick sense of humor and excellent personality.

Very fun but also overwhelming :)

Remy, get posting your other cannot tell a a lie video in your thread!

With regards to my thumb you might be shocked at this :P (I only recently changed technique due to thinking it was helping the wrist but obviously not!) I'll go back to using it how I was but maybe slightly less thumb over the neck

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xR171LRvnFY

But yea thanks so much for the skype fun :)

Ibanez has kicked my pants and my pocket a couple of times (I don´t regret it at all), but apart from being free of chosing the music one wants to play, the clothes one wants to wear and the music one wants to play, I think that it´s very wise to try to "copy" a guy like Paul, and when you have not money enough to get a replica you have to get a life.
What should I do to get a left handed Fireman for example? :)

That is something only jaden can tell you

Technically all that's left to do is handwork, pickups/ electronics, fret wire, scratch plate, clearcoat and the finish on the headstock.

So hopefully not too long

For the sake of argument.

I like GH's music, most of my current techniques are associated with GH, woot.

Gh's guitar = just right for the cash I have, perfect for the kind of music I play

Am I copying him? Should I get really big biceps too?

Point is, sharpant likes PG's music and the guitar just fits to what he likes. I know the JEM is a very common guitar nowadays, but what's up? Not all JEM users are Vai rip-offs.

Though honestly, if people would say that I can rip off GH, I'd giggle and be like "d'aww you're just sayin that  "
