Post Gilbert used a 2x12! what one?
Hey guys i just checked out guitar geek after ordering my laney GS412IA
http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=gs412ia

I found that Paul Gilbert actually used Laney 2X12'S

However GAK have e-mailed me saying its out of stock and they need to order it in.

Therefore I'm considering canceling my order after hearing that Paul himself used 2x12's, I'm not sure on the model though, i presume this one?

http://www.laney.co.uk/show_prod.php?prod=gs212ie

Would you recommend i stick with the 4X12 or opt for the cheaper 2x12, surely Paul chose the 2x12 over the 4x12 for a reason?

Absolutely correct, these were the Laney GS212PE cabs. The 2x10 was also discontinued.

I emailed GAK aaaaaaaages ago about them and they told me they're no longer made. They are lying to you!

Was about to say the same... then you should also leave your hair long, then cut it off again, use yellow picks and then orange ones...

I think he wants it because not just paul used it, but it is the best looking 2x12 cab  If I needed a 2x12 cab, I would go for that one especially when you have ocd (obsessive compulsive disorder, not the pedal) like me

I have a Laney 2x12 just like the one Paul used that I'm thinking of selling. Please PM me if you're interested and we can talk about it.

Thanks,

Jason

No way dude, there's way better cabs out there.

For example:

Mesa Recto 2x12s freakin rule!
Avatar 2x12 (I've heard very good things come from this cab)
G-Benz 2x12 is supposed to be amazing
VHT 2x12 cabs are killer.

...loads more too.

All a lot more expensive that the Laney apart from the Avatar which would be hard to come by in the UK.

A few hundred £££ really is worth it to get a killer cab.

Plus, Sharpant, if you're just getting it because Paul used it, make sure YOU like it too before you buy it.

All good advice!! personally I like a Marshall 4x12 with Greenbacks, but a lot of people think the Greenbacks are too soft, especially if you're playing metal!

The only way to buy a cab without being very lucky or throwing away lots of cash is to try first.

Hey guys thanks for the replies, I've just posted this in another forum

Hey chaps, I've just ordered my 4x12 Laney gs412l
http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/gs-412i/387

However they have told me that the speaker needs to be delivered in, so this got me thinking, considering i am only doing bedroom play, jamming with friends would you advise me to cancel the order, stretch my budget and order a 2X12? I'm looking for that Gilbert tone.

Budget of £400

Paul used a Laney GS212PE cab which has now been discontinued

So guys stick with the Laney cab, or buy a 2x12 of higher quality?

Someone gave me this information in the Racer X forum

No way dude, there's way better cabs out there.

For example:

Mesa Recto 2x12s freakin rule!
Avatar 2x12 (I've heard very good things come from this cab)
G-Benz 2x12 is supposed to be amazing

...loads more too.

Liking the look of this 1, although that would mean I'd have to wait for a month to get it...

EDIT I have a Line 6 Spider 2X12 i could sell and am expecting £533 from tesco on the 2nd October

i used to have an avatar 2x12 cab with V30s.

cab construction is not as superior as mesas, but for the price its unbeatable.

Why do you want other people to pick which one you want?

why dont you just look at some reviews on harmony central, and if its feasable go play through some of the cabs ur interested in.

Your far better off getting some MOJO cabinet and then buying decent speakers for it than buying some laney cab with sucky speaks in.

for example,

You can get an extension cab from MOJO for 160 quid, and then get some custom made weber speakers for 50 each.

comes to around 360 without shipping, and is top quality, not cheaping out getting some chinese made V30s or something like that.

If your gunna buy a certain peice of kit, its better to go the whole hog and get something which is gunna last. nothing ever holds its value, and buying the cheaper option, then selling it to get something more is always gunna lose you money.

Thats my advice anyway.

My personal opinion would be to get a Mesa Recto 2x12.

But that is my opinion.

You need to pick what YOU want. I'll say it now, but not in a nasty way - you're never gonna get Paul's exact tone.

Most of your tone is in the hands. You can't change that.

GeorgeLynchTiger gave good advice there.

Stop worrying about trying to sound like somebody else, find your tone.

By the way, if that sounded mean, I didn't mean it like that.

Pablo
