I have noticed the key to very fast pickers is:

Actually, MAB's thumb does move.

And Paul Gilbert's:

I think soundclips would help make this thread more effective. But then Brono would win for sure.

thanx, I just used to practice it an hour a day to try and get my picking happening, it helped alot. the only reason i made that clip was to help show someone an effective way to get speed pickin happening.

and trust me i dont think this means im good, it just means i could ply that lick fast. thats all.

i think the last one was 160bpm.

Hey, it keeps bringing me back to the homepage. I listened to the other ones on here but it wouldnt let me see yours. mmmh. Must be too good. :P

With all respect, i'm pretty much 99.9% certain those "picked runs" were actually programmed midi's of some sort... maybe in Guitar Pro 5 or something similar. I've heard so many people now on the net try to pass programmed/sampled guitar runs off as their own playing, but even the best of the guitar sampled midi's lack that natural 'organic' sound of real electric guitar.

Whatever dude, it's just a low quality recording. If you listen really carefully you'll hear on ex. 5, some residual open string dookie, because I wasn't muting until I got to the G string. I'll send you the MP3 if you want. There are actually a couple mistakes in there as well.

Plus, I have no means of converting a midi file to mp3.

Besides that, I have played guitar for 30 years and it's my life, I would never try to fake something I take to heart. And wouldn't you think, if I was gonna fake it, why not make it 20 NPS, or some ridiculous speed? Have you ever heard of just practicing and kicking your own ass everyday to get good?

And by the way, you're a lot faster than me. And I'm sure it is 12 NPS, because I "set the met" at 60 bpm, and I count time using "ta ka de mi"
aka The Indian Drummer Method.

GRAPE ON!

Then pretty much every solo and every pinch harmonic by necrophagist is midi.

Yea, they're cool. I've got their latest cd, I kinda like it. Not a huge fan, but they're cool.

well, I started to play with a lot of economy-picking, also nowadays when I improvise it happens quite often.
But when I play those fast picked runs, I go for alternate purely.

What helped me a lot was muting the strings and doing the paul gilbert-lick... so You can concentrate exclusively on the picking hand movement and the attack-sound it makes, rather than to the left hand-played notes.

Just my 2 cents..
