Hi everybody, new memeber here :)

Can someone explain me why and when PG uses compressor? I have never played with them, but I know that they kill dynamics. What is a point of that, since Paul already have excellent picking? Can it be used like a sustainer in Suite Modale for example? What else can it be used for?

Welcome to the board Ese...

At the Hollywood clinic the example PG gave (if I remember correctly) was he uses the Keeley Compressor and the Detox EQ to kill his distorted tone down to the clean tone you hear on songs like Mr Bigs "Just Take My Heart"...... 8)

Exactly, think the opening riff to "Message in a Bottle" sound.

Does anyone know which pedal Paul he pushes during his solo in the current Mr. Big tour, I mean the part just before changing guitars to the double neck where he loops riffs. Is it a loop or a delay pedal? Which one. Thanks!

I can't believe I actually know the answer to this, but I do. It's the Boss DD3. The digital delay pedal he also used to do those funky tricks at the beginning of GOOMY. To confirm this, please watch the "Paul Gilbert / Mr. Big gear overview" interview on Lick Library (or youtube).

Thanks for pointing that out. They are gone along with the server. I'll fix them when I have some spare time.

that's not 1999 - more, like 1993. and most likely ampeg-amps.

Hey gang,

I am in the market for some new pickups for one of my axes and "Viking Kong" happened to come on the old iPod on the way into work. I heard that bridge and neck pickup tone and had an epiphany. THAT is what I want. Can someone detail the gear and pickups Paul was using when he recorded that?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Regards,
Jeff

Lamer or anyone,

Any chance someone else hosted the various http://serv.attu.pl/~lamer/pg_gear/ files showing the amp settings referenced below? The links appear to be dead. Thanks!

regards,
Jeff

Thanks, Eric.

TZ in both positions, correct? The only issue for me is that I am actually looking for 7-string pickups and the TZ7 is a very different beast from the 6-string version from what I am led to believe. I've had a couple 6-string TZ's over the years, but only in the bridge. I was not overly fond of the bass-heaviness of the TZ, but perhaps in the neck it would be different.

Thanks,
Jeff
