Post Question about my new strings
I just put a new set of strings on my guitar and now I am noticing some small problems. The new set it Ernie Ball Extra Slinkies. I would call the problem a rattle, but not the rattle of the strings on the lower frets. I know that when the gauge gets that low the guitar will be prone to rattle more. My problem is from another part of the guitar (don't know the proper name). My guitar has a fixed bridge and it is not where the strings attached. It is the piece of hardware just above that, where you can change in intenation. I've noticed on some strings that the medal groove is too large for my new set of strings. If i pull on the strings I can actually move them around in the gap. This causes a string to sound out of tune or just not vibrate at all. It is like the string is being muted. Then I have to reach down and push the string over to the other side of the groove and then it seems to work.

A long explanation but I lack to vocab to explain it in guitar terms. How do I fix this???

Also the piece right before the headstock, the strings rest on it. This also has small grooves in to but it doesn't seem to have the same problem as the other area. Why would my guitar have two different sized parts? I would expect to have the problem at both ends.

When putting new strings on, I always stretch the sh!t out of them. I also touch the nut (the piece before the headstock) and the saddles with WD40. I mean just a TOUCH.

Stretching them is not the problem, I do that too. Do you guys know what I am talking about? It's the hardware where I can change the intenation. There is a little medal U (basic concept) where the string fits into it. The U is too big for my strings so they move back and forth in that gap. On my friends guitars the strings fit nicely and fill the gap. How do I fix mine?

Are you talking about the separate straddles on the fixed bridge or the nut near the headstock.

Not the headstock.

headstock - neck - pickups
-----|||||||||||||||||||| [] [] | } <---fixed bridge

___________what I am talking about

Does that help? Hard to draw on here. Had to do wacky stuff to get it looking normal (ignore underscores). Best guitar diagram I could do.

Oh! I think I know what you're talking about. Wait, what kind of guitar is it?

It is a Schecter 006 elite, here's a picture.

It's the part right below the pickups.

Dude, that's your bridge, the strings are on the saddles of the bridge...
And the part behind that (where your strings go through) is your tailpiece...X

Damn me then :(

I thought the fixed bridge was where the strings were attached, though the second piece had a different name, oh well. Now how do I fix that :)

Yes the grammar police are in full force, but does anyone have an idea on how to solve the problem?

Take it to a pro dude... Don't mess with your intonation if you don't know what you're doing... Could be something else like a truss rod adjustment but either way let a pro look at it...X

Ok, but the intenation is not the problem. I just had that checked and it is all setup. It comes down to a very small issue that my guitar was not made for such small strings. I guess I'll just have to deal with it.
