Post Fixing up a Jackson

I was given an old jackson a while ago and im looking into doing it up. Im not sure of the model or year but im checking it out, it looks like it cost about $400- about the same quality as an Ibanez just lower than a RG550.

It plays great but sounds really wierd, i put an old Ibanez V8 humbucker in when i upgraded my Ibanez. This made it sound REALLY bassy through any of my amps (especially my recto :) ).

It has two humuckers and i would like to wire it like one of John Petruccis guitars with a 4 way switch (neck, bridge, two inner coils).

My question is can anyone advise me of which pickups i should buy, and would different sized tone and volume pots make it sound less bassy?
