I know Joe Stump. I know him pretty well. I know his life story pretty damned good. He's one of my idols. He is NOT a yngwie clone. He and Yngwie have been around the same amount of time, just because yngwie is more popular that does not make Joe a clone. Joe's technique and style are quite different form Yngwie's. Joe is very Rock/Blues based where as Yngwie is more classical type of player. Just because Joes likes the same gear yngwie does it dosent make him a poser either. How many freaking Les Paul/Marshall/Blues players have been around. Nobody calls those guys clones. How many Strat/Fender/blues guys are out there, Nobody calls those guys clones man. just because 2 guys play in the same genre of music does not make either one a clone. I think you have under analyzed both Joe and Yngwie's styles.

Agreed. I know Joe too (took lessons with him at Berklee, e-mail him alot). He's also one of my guitar idols also. He's alot faster than Yngwie, and also plays the neo-classical style. However, he's alot heavier and more intense, and thus having his own style. I mean, yeah, he uses Yngwie's gear, but look at what Yngwie uses......hmmmm....scalloped necks.......could it be Ritchie Blackmore?..haha
Also, Rusty Cooley also owns. I have started taking guitar lessons from him here in Atlanta. If you aren't familiar with him, check him out.

Its funny that Fransesco Farerri wasnt mentioned. Because he is probably faster than all of those guys. He is a relative unknown. when fransesco p[lays though it dosent even sound like music its so fast, It just sounds like a computer beebping out 32nd notes at like 300bpm lol

I'm not a huge fan of DiMeola. He gets alot of shit for not being "true Jazz", and not having "soul", however a lot of shred guys listen to him. Although he is fast (but not nearly fast enough to be on the list) he's not a shredder, he's a Jazz guitarist (thus disqualifying him). Anyway, I don't want to takes sides in the whether or not DiMeola sucks arguement that I hope will not come up..........

Post i thank you!!
i was hoping you'd get that!!
anyway, there has to be a point with speed where an arppegio DOES sound/become a chord??
just my theory..
we all know paul cheats by using that RICKENBACKER with slanted frets, that allows you to play 10-15% faster..(teeifying guitar trip video!!)
SHRED!

He did 20 questions for sludge this week. Seems like a good guy but anyone who gives cc deville a 10 out of 10 is out of his fucking mind.

I have a couple of Great Kat tunes. The stuff is incredibly fast but it's more so the songs than the playing. Personally in all my years of collecting as many shredders as I can I think her and John Petrucci should have been in the top 20 but not top 10. Replace them with Jason Becker and Joe Stump and make #11 George Bellas. A pretty accurate list I think.

Anybody have Rusty Cooleys debut CD? I just ordered it yesterday!

I'd have to agree with WAXX from the 1st page of this thread. You guys NEED to listen to RON THAL. Sheer command of the instrument. Think of Steve Vai (crazy zappa-esqe thing and all) and then multiple by 1000. I don't believe even Michael Angelo could pull some of that off. I'll give M.A. the top award for the ambidexterity though. Frontwards, backwards, sideways (hahaha), upsidedown, crossed over. Thats some crazy stuff.

However back to the speed and control..time signature shifts, etc and overall musical creation.....RON THAL is insane! Listen to "Guitars Suck" for just a sample of the wackiness. Crunch

Yeah, the tunes are really good, and the shredding is insane (I don't care for the production though). Rusty's insanely good. Lucky for me he lives in Atlanta and teaches (haha)
