Post Re: Paul Gilbert Rock Guitar School
I'm interested in the concept, but to be honest based on what I saw for the demo free lessons I wasn't that impressed.

I can honestly say my foundational years playing guitar were powered by Paul's instructional DVDs and clips off YouTube that were done for various guitar magazines, but I found something difficult to describe lacking in the demo videos.

I might ask for 3 months as a birthday present from my wife, but can anyone else who has a lot of experience with Paul's DVDs and stuff clarify on the quality of the lessons? (If possible from an intermediate to advanced perspective)

Im working through the videos in order so I haven't got to the intermediate or advanced stuff yet. To me the lessons are very good, but I havent gotten to the hard stuff yet.

If you were unclear about things in the lessons, Paul is active on the forums for the site and can help clarify things. I know I saw some topics on music theory where paul answered peoples questions.

Well, I'm not sure if the lesson list is available for non-subscribers; however, I believe it's to Artist Works'/Paul's/student's benefit that this be shared). Tons of lessons (over 100, 6-8 minute videos), the ability to correspond with your idol (there's a forum, and the main idea being...video correspondence); as a fan of Paul Gilbert, you are doing yourself a great injustice by NOT signing up! For what it's worth, the majority of these lessons have not been presented in his DVDs, Young Guitar videos, Total Guitar, Guitar Techniques, Shred Alert, nor Guitar Player columns. And according to Paul, there are additional lessons to come.

Here is a lesson from Paul Gilbert's Online School of Rock Guitar that he sent GuitarNoize.com as a free preview.

So, for those who are taking the lessons, how is it?

I really thought about siging up for this, but I realized I don't have too much time to put on my playing and, honestly, I feel like I need more different influences. I have watched almost every single Paul Gilbert lesson out there, I've taken a VIP lesson with the man, and I feel like I could take a different approach.

However I'm curious about this couse! :P

I think its fantastic, honestly. Going over the basic lessons has helped me immensely and the more difficult lessons are really fun. Paul is really active on the forum and always answers questions to the best of his ability. Also the video exchange is really cool and watching Paul helping other students is like another lesson in itself.

I guess he won't be coming back to this forum, then....

He's got a forum where he can talk to people who PAID him for that!

Sad sad news. Good news is last week I found out that the wife of a guy I work with was friends in high school with Paul and still talks to him almost weekly on the phone. CRAZY.

WOW!

That's really really cool! I guess this shows us a bit of how Paul Gilbert seems to be: just a cool guy. Who can play the guitar like a motherfucker.
