Judging by everyone's responses here, we all seem to be alienating him.

Yup.
"Paul, don't make this type of music, make metal!!!"
"Paul, give us the DVD of the music we don't want! You're alienating us!"

I'm not criticizing anyone it's just interesting how opinions work.

If a friend of mind kept on relentlessly criticising me, I probably wouldn't give a shit what he thought and would stop hanging out with him.

*shrug*

You mean by saying something like:

RX-BOARD: Hey, Paul! I like your new stuff. I bought it even if I didn't like the preview. I'd just like to say I'll keep supporting you despite the change in musical direction but I like your old style better. Just saying.

I still don't understand. We never said he was crap.

Let me clarify...

my "alienating" comment was directed at the fact that Japan has ALWAYS received "extras" on their releases be it a CD or DVD (on top of the fact that they receive releases first)... Everyone else always gets a "lesser" version of the release, and if they want the extras have to buy the "import" from Japan (usually costing more $$$)... I get that there are more fans of PG's work in Japan and that he's signed to a bigger label there, etc, etc... BUT if I'm an artist with 1000's of fans in Japan vs 100's elsewhere, I'm not going to "shortchange" the 100's by giving them a release with less or different material...

Personally : I harshly criticize Paul but I have acknowledged on this thread that no matter how harsh my criticism is, I know Paul is an awesome musician, and that what he does, even though I don't like it, requires tremendous talent.

I still support him, and he is still number 1 guitarist with Eddie Van Halen in my book.

I read once that, in Japan, it's actually cheaper to by CDs from the US or Europe.

For this reason, the Japanese market usually gets CDs with extra tracks and early releases.

It's not just Paul's music that works this way. Do you guys realize how many japanese version of albums released wordwide have extra tracks?

Did a little research. Wikipedia seems to agree with me:

Cool.

Is that FRM a darker than the original Red one, or is it just effects from the picture?

BTW, funny seing Gus G among Paul, Stavh and Vai on that picture, as a "shred master".

I took a look inside the other week in the UK and was disappointed, so didn't buy it. Same old, same old. That's no reflection on Paul, just on Total Guitar, which always seems very dumbed-down. I guess the target reading age isn't particularly high.
